I took the plunge on this one today and am really pleased.
I haven't yet gotten too deep with Plugin Alliance's monster yet, but the mere fact that it adds a quite good je-ne-sais-quoi to the 2-Bus speaks volumes. I've used it in several of my mixes today. A few months back I tested its THD / aliasing profile (the UAD version) and I still have the screen shots. They're superb.
I'm glad someone turned me onto this originally on gearslutz, and it is a complement, or an either/or kind of thing with Decapitator, MH Character, and SDRR. There's not a ton of overlap as VSM-3 has it's own vibe, I'd almost call it sophisticated to use an unusual descriptor. There is a decent sized CPU hit, but if you use it on the 2-Bus or on select AUX Channels, and/or Master entire tracks it's fine. If I really want the magic on a bass track, for instance, printing is always an option. Now that I understand what this model can do, I totally get how and why.
bx_saturator is a different animal altogether, more for fine tuning and balancing a track, not a mix tool like VSM-3. I have that one on UAD. It uses quite a bit less DSP than this beast.
What a sweet deal PA put together today.

It's a bargain for people who don't already have it, and are looking for a different type of sat/distortion, and especially people who have a voucher.

I know this isn't a bargain thread, but if you add the $9 BX green screamer, it will kick in a 20% bundle discount (-15.80). An even better price on the VSM-3 and the screamer basically for free.

Gaslighting...is a form of mental abuse in which information is twisted or spun, selectively omitted to favor the abuser, or false information is presented with the intent of making victims doubt their own memory, perception, and sanity.

Whoever wants music instead of noise, joy instead of pleasure, soul instead of gold, creative work instead of business, passion instead of foolery, finds no home in this trivial world of ours.

The VSM-3 is absolutely brilliant. One of my more often used "secret weapons" since getting it at the end of last year.
As I already had it, I used my May voucher on Rock Rack V3 instead. I really like all the guitar plugins from Brainworx and am slowly getting my collection fulfilled.

I tried the demo some time back and liked it. Could someone please tell me what the CPU hit and latency is like for VSM-3?
I seem to recall it having quite a CPU hit.
Thanks
