Sorry I can't think of a better way to explain this.
Cubase SX and Midi Tracks?

When I open a VSTi on track 1 of the midi mixer. Then I open "mixer 2" and click on the "midi" icon, I can see that the audio is coming in on Track 17. Is there a way I can make the audio come in on Track 2???
Sorry I can't think of a better way to explain this.

I am at work now, so I cannot check, but my guess is you start with a template with 16 midi tracks. If you start with an empty template and add your midi track, that should do the trick.

Then again, if you expect to use those 16 midi tracks at some point later in your song, you can still hide them and show them when you actually use them.

I interpet this to mean that he starts with a 16 midi track template, and assign a vsti to the first track. The mixer in SX shows all tracks, each one with the corresponding channel. So, what you actually see is 16 midi channels, and then one audio channel for the vsti. When I open a VSTi on track 1 of the midi mixer. Then I open "mixer 2" and click on the "midi" icon, I can see that the audio is coming in on Track 17. Is there a way I can make the audio come in on Track 2???
But it is true that the order of channels in the mixer reflects the order of tracks in the project window, so moving tracks moves the channels also. But why have all these empty tracks, anyway (unless you plan to use them, of course).

Thanks for the tips. Yes I do start with a 16 track midi template. I'd love to drag and drop but it will only display the 16 midi tracks. I can't get track 17 to show up in mixer 1. I cant seem to drag and drop in mixer 2. I tried to the "add track" thing but it wouldn't work.
My reason for this is that I use the Radikal Sac controller and if I have the midi/audio track side by side I can have more control.

That makes sense, because there is no actual audio track, there is a vsti channel that the mixer generates automatically when you root a midi track to a vsti.
I am pretty sure the "add midi track" thing sure work, though. If you start with an empty template, create a midi track, and root its output to your vsti, you should end up with a mixer that shows (besides input and output channels), one midi channel and one vsti (audio) channel.
Anyway, you can still try to hide midi tracks except the one you want (cannot remember how you do it, though), or, as a last solution, use midi track 16, so midi channel 16 and vsti channel 1 are still side by side.
PS don't be confused by mixer 1 and 2 things, they are just different costumizable views of thw same thing.

Incidentally, under SX2, the audio outs of a VSTi actually appear in the arrange window, which makes relating to the mixer a lot easier (it also makes the mixer pretty redunant for tracking purposes...)
