Richard D. James album. That was actually the first time I'd heard Aphex Twin, at least that I was aware of. I knew him by name only up until that point. The album had just come out and they were playing it over the sound system at Tower Records. It immediately caught my ear and I had to ask what it was. Utterly brilliant!
Incomplete list of my gear: 1/8" audio input jack.

Saw8592, Drukqs, Cheetah, I care, The Tusses. No real fave, but Drukqs is going slightly behind the rest for boombasticness and breaks abuse.

Wow, only 4 KVR people heard Richard's albums.
EDIT: Sorry, my bad. The rest is actually too busy posting in that '3 big synths' thread...

Aphex Twin never was my cup of tea. His music always appeared quite depressed, and somehow "autistic" (i think he stated himself that he's a bit autistic) to me. Very creative guy, but, IMO, a bit overrated. One or two tracks from his Selected Ambient Works albums aren't bad really. But, rather something i'd listen to when i had a really, really bad day. And even then, i'd rather need something to cheer me up.

I care because you do. First I heard, back when he was being touted by the press as the "Techno Mozart", which sounded so incredibly dumb that I just had to give him a listen... love it. But then, I like almost all of his albums under the Aphex moniker. A truly unique voice in a sea of electronic mediocrity.

Another term at the time the music press used was "The New Wave of New Wave" for artists like These Animal Men.
Must be great work when one can get paid for coming up with such stuff
There is one Techno Mozart and that is Falco (RIP).

I was really into the "Come To Daddy" EP for a while, so I'll say that.
I feel like he and his albums are mostly overhyped/overrated (especially Syro). But I do like some of Computer Controlled Acoustic Instruments and Drukqs. It's been a while since I listened to Selected Ambient Works though.

It's a bit like Matrix, you still have to discovered the 14321 previous afx threads. Then you'll miss that steak with Agent Smith.e@rs wrote:Wow, only 4 KVR people heard Richard's albums.

SAW II, changed the way I looked at contemporary ambient music.
Then I care... and RDJ kind of tie. But all worthy imho. Though Classics sounds kinda dated.
