Just saw this in the sidebar.
Heard a lot of good things about the first version but never got around to checking it out.
Good time to finally give it a go and see for myself.

Audio Damage stuff is awesome. But RR2 has a supremely lazy gui. It looks like the kind of food you get in a concentration camp.

So you're saying it looks a bit rough?HunterKiller wrote:Audio Damage stuff is awesome. But RR2 has a supremely lazy gui. It looks like the kind of food you get in a concentration camp.

Wow, that is a turdy GUI,
they need someone who knows how to code procedural GUIs properly!

Well, I've never been in a concentration camp so I wouldn't know about that, but the gui is pretty plain. Which is odd because the original RR UI looked really good. Sounded decent too.HunterKiller wrote:Audio Damage stuff is awesome. But RR2 has a supremely lazy gui. It looks like the kind of food you get in a concentration camp.

As I am a fan of flat gui, I must say that I like the new gui.

They've got various good looking procedural GUI's all coded by Chris Randall. I don't think it's a matter of not knowing how, but rather wanting it to look like that.VariKusBrainZ wrote:Wow, that is a turdy GUI,

Yeah, google thinks that too.aMUSEd wrote:Thought it was a porn film
I quite like the knobs, a reference to the 3d ones of mkI but that gain reduction meter is just awful, looks like a placeholder to be developed later.

Just had a quick play with it, and yeah, its good. If youre looking for pumpy, you pretty much cant go wrong with this. I thought it was somewhat detrimental on the stereo image of the mix ive tried it on, but im sure that when used further upstream (especially pre-reverb) and/or mixed into right from the start it shouldnt be too much of a problem. (Will try it out on some other stuff later or tomorrow.)
So kudos from this user. First impression is very good, and im pretty much already convinced that this plugin will get some use around here. The only criticism i have at this point is that the knobs respond to vertical AND horizontal mouse movement at the same time, which always makes me want to bite the carpet because the X axis constantly interferes with what youre trying to achieve with the Y axis. The fact that the UI is simple doesnt bother me, although if i had my way i would replace the big center knob with a classic meter to indicate the GR.
In any case, thanks for the free treat.

Really digging this update, I think that the new GUI just adds functionality (although it was already available, only "hidden" in the first version) to an already great plugin.

I think anyone critical of this GUI probably has to be equally (if not more) critical of Valhalla DSP's GUIs. But, Valhalla DSP seems to be revered, and most seem pretty hush-hush about the minimalist GUI. When I used RR2, I found it just as functional as any other compressor. I would be nice to have a better gain reduction meter, yeah. But it was just like any other plugin, really. You move the knobs, it does stuff. How it looks is beside the point to me, personally.

Not really, the similarities are superficial. Valhalla designs are based on a much more consistent design aesthetic, this is a bit of a mishmash (not hugely against it tbh but it isn't particularly harmonious).BRBWaffles wrote:I think anyone critical of this GUI probably has to be equally (if not more) critical of Valhalla DSP's GUIs.
