It's awful. Yes, Logic was updated with this flat crap somewhat recently (10.3).sprnva wrote:I installed the GB update last night. Can't believe how bad this new "modern" UI looks. And Logic has this too?
Apple has destroyed GUI design by ruining their own products and by everyone continuing to mindlessly copy what they do (which, in this case, was a copy of what Microsoft and Droid people were already doing). I don't know how many years it's going to take to get good design back again. A decade??

I read today that Microsoft is working on a new GUI engine called Project Neon. It's still very shy, but it's a start: http://wccftech.com/microsoft-introduce ... indows-10/ or http://wccftech.com/microsoft-fluent-de ... ject-neon/Jace-BeOS wrote: Apple has destroyed GUI design by ruining their own products and by everyone continuing to mindlessly copy what they do (which, in this case, was a copy of what Microsoft and Droid people were already doing). Unfortunately, I also read the comments of a designer who published a video about Project Neon, and he talked about Aero Glass as a "dated" GUI connected with "skeumorphism" that was replaced by the "trendy" flat design (yet he recosgnized that it was beautiful).
Seems like the fashion people invaded OS GUIs, and we will be in a roller coaster every few years, according to what's "trendy" among them.

I honestly don't get all the whining about the Logic interface change. I barely even noticed it at the last update, but then again, I am a whole lot more focussed on the music making process than what (at least to me) seem to be trivial details.

I think Apple is excellent with design and their GUI's get better and better. I liked how Logic looked before. I like how Logic looks now. Flat design works well and is effective.Jace-BeOS wrote:It's awful. Yes, Logic was updated with this flat crap somewhat recently (10.3).sprnva wrote:I installed the GB update last night. I'm having a hard time seeing how the old UI was amazing and the new UI is awful, bad, and destroyed because gradients and bevel/emboss were removed. Really?
Are we comparing the same before and afters?

Yes we are comparing that. The contrast and readability has gone down again (Apple's readability in GUIs has been shit since iOS 7) and the graphics look overly simplistic and ugly.

Ah ok, I see - you're being emphatically subjective. In that case you're spot on. I could not agree with you any more.Jace-BeOS wrote:Yes we are comparing that. I like the new flat design too, it looks much better in my opinion and is easier to use
circuit modeling and 0-dfb filters are cool

I am with Jace BeOS, and I am intrigued: Better in what way? Just because it is trendy? And easier why?penguinfromdeep wrote:I like the new flat design too, it looks much better in my opinion and is easier to use
Besides the fact that it is flat, nothing changed, in therms of GUI. It has less readability and less contrast, but in terms if GUI elements, it is exactly the same. So, unless the contrast and the readability were bothering you, how can it be easier?
IMNSHO, this is just a trend, and, as happen with so many trends, there are people adhering exactly because of that, without any really rational reason. In a couple of years, the trend will change (again) and the exact same people that defend now flat will be defending whatever else will be trendy then
That's the logic of the fashion business

It is definitely not because it is trendy, I don't give a toss about that. I find it doesn't strain my eyes so much, I can find the elements easier and it is more clear to use (thus all this comes down to that I find the new interface easier to use). It is difficult to exactly pinpoint the reason (I am no UI designer or expert) but that is my experience. Your mileage might and seems to vary thoughfmr wrote: I am with Jace BeOS, and I am intrigued: Better in what way? Just because it is trendy? And easier why?

Have to add that I didn't use Logic X so much before the interface change actually though I bought Logic X when it was released. Now I've been using it much more and enjoying it much more

I'm very interested in understanding this. Can you specify how the prior design strained your eyes? What about the Logic 9.x design? Was it less strain for you? The problem might be in Logic X's dark theme, not in the bevels of GUI objects.penguinfromdeep wrote:I find it doesn't strain my eyes so much, I can find the elements easier and it is more clear to use (thus all this comes down to that I find the new interface easier to use).
