the best advice is to download both products, test them out and YOU tell us your opinion... Reason users love Reason... Bitwig users love Bitwig...
at the end of the day... they both do pretty much the same thing... i.e. records audio/midi data...
also, keep in mind that the software does not create the music... the individual does... that is why YOU should test these products... and come to your own conclusion(s)...
last point... whether YOU use Bitwig and/or Reason... the actually music will sound the same... i.e. the software is not going to make YOU a better composer/music creator... YOU are who YOU are...
just being honest here... test the software out for yourself... come to your own conclusion(s)...

Both are capable of doing more or less the same thing. The workflow, however, is completely different. Does the Reason virtual rack metaphor appeal to you, or do you prefer something a little more conventional? As already suggested, you need to try them both and see what clicks with you.

they have completely different advantages/disadvantages, so can complement each other nicely

Bitwig needs Bidule as ReWire master VST to able to this

They both have great full demos, You realy have to use them both for some time to see what workflow suits you. Personally I never got on with Reason but it sounds great and now it can host VSTs a big negative factor has been removed. I still think the graphics (pretend rack and wiring etc) and general layout are a bit confusing and audio/midi editing limited compaired to many DAWs- it came from a closed rack of instruments with a built in simple sequencer (no audio, no VST) and even though they have added those things it wasn't designed with that as a primary integrated function initially (unlike Bitwig) and for me that shows.
I do use Bitwig 2 and highly recommend it, it is very simple and logical to use and is something of a cross between Live and Logic (or Studio one). Also it's worth checking if Reaper metpets your needs as it's pretty powerful and very cheap!

If this is true and not some sick twisted joke, you have to tell me how you know this. I can't imagine anyone in the entire world I'd be more happy to hear uses Reason.Michael L wrote:Steve Reich uses Reason, so you should too....or not!

That is awesome! Doesn't even matter he just uses stacks of NN-XT, this is the most proud I've ever been.Michael L wrote:I am pleased to make you so happy:Anosou wrote:If this is true and not some sick twisted joke, you have to tell me how you know this. And yeah, Steve Reich is an acquired taste but that's minimalism for you.

A bit OT but check out Steve Reich's book, Writings on Music, 1965-2000! He talks more about his technique and sampling: "Obviously, new instruments make new music."

OP, 2 completely different beasts.
Both are great but some astonishing things lacking in Reason that are worth checking . No midi chase, which is mind boggling and really annoying and no automatic syncing of loops to project when auditioning (Logic is the same ). No key command editing . No solo safe in Mixer. Most and do say most DAWs really should have these things in 2017, however the rack/ modular workflow might out weigh these things.
Bitwig is my preference over Live if that floats your boat and the new mod system is great, the subscription by another name pricing is worth remembering.
