Is there any real IP infringement? could other developers (like D16) be in risk?

D16 got a talking to from Roland's lawyers over 10 years ago, not long after they launched, so I doubt there's anything to worry about there.

Propellerhead To Discontinue ReBirth, Resulting From Roland's IP Infringement Claims

Source? ReBirth was discontinued ages ago, and distributed as freeware, and pulled after some more ages. Propellerhead also always stated that they had the OK from Roland. I can't see how this would have changed, especially as they don't even offer ReBirth officially anymore.

It's funny. For a while there they were our biggest downloader, of the BETA version. But we had done our homework and made sure we weren't infringing on any of their copyrights or anything. And then they contacted us, which of course was a little bit scary for three young guys.

They are pulling their iOS app. That was not discontinued just the desktop app was.

Interesting that Roland follows this now, when they were always OK with ReBirth's desktop app. Maybe they're planning a mobile 303 app too.

My guess is Roland wants to create an ACB version (likely software but maybe also hardware) of their TB303 and don't want to bastardize sales of their TR-8 so people can make their own Rebirth setup using Roland hardware and software. I have no evidence of that outside of this news about Rebirth and Roland's recent ACB versions of their classic hardware, so this is just a hunch.

Hardware acb has already been in the market for a while now
