Hi, I just got logic 6 pro today, and have absolutely NO IDEA what I'm doing... I don't even know where to begin. I am familiar with midi and vst's in the sense that I learned about everything there was to know about fl studio 4, however, it seems like none of that knowledge transfers over. It seems that it doesn't recognize my mk-461c keyboard, I don't know how to open/use my vsti's, and the user manual offers very little help in either of these departments. I probably sound like an idiot, but, if I could just get to where I can play my keyboard with some plugins (ni komplete, atmosphere...) , that would be one hell of a start!

i gave up on logic a while ago.. but if i remember corretly you insert soft synths the same way you insert other effects in the mixer view.. click and hold the mouse button down somewhere. LOL. that wasnt much help :)
isnt there a "configuration wizard" in logic 6 that will assist you in setting up the I/Os ?

i also bought a book called "making music with logic audio", but i dont recommend getting that book. at least the edition of the book i got was ruined by poor design extremely low res pictures. it also had lots of printing errors.

Hi

The first thing is to sort the keyboard issue out.

So do we assume you have a midi interface?

You need to give MORE details - what soundcard/does the soundcard have a midi port or do you have a seperate midi interface?

Playing vst's comes later!

Post back giving more info - I am running Logic PC 5.5 - I assume that Logic still allows you to play a MIDI GM bank by default - this is a good test to see if anything is happerning - even better when you play the keyboard a midi in signal should show up on the transport - which has a midi activity bar.

Flipper.

First of all, calm down. Pat yourself on the back for your great purchase. :D

I actually found that the manuals which came with ver 5 were well written (compared to 4x anyhow!) and I guess they wouldn't have changed so much in 6x.

What I mean to say is that you would be doing yourself a HUGE favour by taking a day or two and slowly reading through the basic set-ups and troubleshooting tips listed in the manuals. It's gonna be much more rewarding finding some stuff out for yourself
Good luck!

Congratulations! Mine is on the FedEx truck. I keep running to the door everytime I think I hear a knock. C'mon FedEx, that track was loaded at 6am, it's now 3pm, this is not a big town!

Anyway, in your autoload are some tracks that are for soft instruments. Click once on them and you get the mixer strip in that left panel. Click on the button right above the one that says "output 1/2".

Good luck. It's really a very powerful tool.

Ok, some info: My system is

15 in. powerbook, 1.5 ghz, 1 gb ram, 80 gb hard drive
Evolution mk-461c midi keyboard, hooked up via usb port right now
M-Audio Firewire 410
channel 1's mic preamp is occupied with a standard vocal condenser mic.

Hope that helps from a tech standpoint! Obviously I realize just how powerful it can be, I listened to the demo mp3 and almost cried it was so awesome. On another note, when I listen to the Logic Pro 6 demo song (not mp3 version) It plays a little bit, and tells me there are audio/midi synchronization problems. now, the manual mentions this, yet it still occurs after I try their solution. Maybe just some weird thing I don't know about yet..

Strangely enough I now have this problem too, with an Emagic EMI62 interface.

What si the solution? In my (old) manuals I didn't find anthing about this.

Btw, the best Logic forum is community.sonikmatter.com.

I've found the following: unless you're recording digitally, make your sure interface is set for analog. Make sure the Song>Sample Rate is set correctly. Don't set your interface as output for anything but Logic (in my case: remove Detour!!!). Fiddle around with external/internal clock source on your interface.

Don't feel bad. FL Studio is a total piece of cake to pick up compared to Logic. Just requires some patience, and lots of reading and digging.

Hi There,

Logic is a pretty hard program to gets to grips with as there is a lot more to learn with it. But you don't need to know every single thing about it. Just get to know the basics and start there really.

Try and build a small track until you get used to how things are set up. I have pretty much used all soft studios/seq out there and I would say the Logic is the toughest to crack. After all music producers use it to release tracks that he will hear in clubs, radio, charts, etc... so it's top end stuff.

Hope this little bit of advice helped.

I love the ES2 manual. It's got a cool section on history of synthesis and a great tutorial, not just a description of the sliders and knobs. I'm just a stupid guitar player who never got into synthesis untill recently, so this manual is like a real Godsend.
Thanks,
