Do you tell people about your music before showing them?

I used to be all about "Hey man, check out this tune I made the other day." But I felt like that was setting them up to be biased in their response to it, which I guess is fine, but wasn't what I was looking for.

Now I just wait for them to go "what the f**k is this crap" before I say "Oh that, that's off my latest release!" At least that way, I know they honestly didn't like it, rather than sugar coating it and blowing smoke up my ass.

Do you tell people they're about to hear your latest track? Do you sneak it on them, and only tell them if they ask who it is? Are you too nervous to even show them?

No, I'm obviously presenting my own work. I'm not shy about it, and I'm not trying for mass approbation from people who wouldn't like it because they don't speaky the lingo anyway.
But hey, if you're going to ridicule As Alien As as "a dated perspective on aliens" rather than anything about the music I may turn around and ridicule that shit ...

I doubt I've ever experienced people saying it was good or liking it when they didn't. But I've been around for aeons.

I have a habit of telling people that I make music before actually playing them any of my music. I don't even technically play my music to anyone. Rather, I give them a name they can google if they wish.
My solo projects:
Hekkräiser (experimental) | MFG38 (electronic/soundtrack) | The Santtu Pesonen Project (metal/prog)

You put it on as background music, and then you can see how they react to it ;)
