I use the (going from memory here) 209MB 'Splendid Grand' soundfont.
Splendid Grand
They had the 209MB archive up for a limited time due to how large it was, but the 136MB version sounds damn good as well.

The Trachtman 80MB crossfading Steinway soundfont isn't bad in NN-XT. The volume is a little low so you might need to select all and pull the amplitudes up a bit. And maybe add a little EQ. I can't remember which worked better now but either Awave or CDXtract converted it with a louder default volume and it sounds decent. I think there might still be a link for a $5 download at the website.

There used to be available a free "Wilton Piano" ReFill that had a sound that I liked in a different way.
Otherwise, I'm a Splendid Grand guy (via sfz+).

There are several akai piano sets I have considered--
but I always chicken out as I am never sure how
well patches translate. Its a shame--the nnxt is
awesome, but there really are not that many good
multisamples for it. The Reason electromechanical
set left me cold--although you can't argue with the
price. Heavy velocity sampled rhodes in the factory
sound bank and flatpack refills sound pretty weak.
Has any one used the sonic refill pianos??

On the cheaper side there are some nice pianos on our "Piano & Organ" refill from my company Sonic Reality (it's distributed by M-Audio and available from M-Audio dealers or you can get it from us here: www.esoundz.com or www.sonicreality.com )
However, if you really want one refill dedicated to an amazing piano we are about to release a 200 meg C7 grand that is fantastic. M-Audio has been showing it secretly since Frankfurt Musik Messe and the response has been great. They're showing it as the optimal piano sound to go along with their new 88 weighted controller.
So, those are a couple of native Reason NNXT options to consider. The first refill I mentioned has a variety of 16-32 meg sized instruments and is less than fifty bucks. The other one I mentioned is part of a high end line dedicated to one stellar instrument with multiple articulations and will have a street price of less than a hundred bucks... probably around $79.

There is a nice 130mb piano in a refill called "Wilbe 2003". It isn't multisampled but every note in the entire keyboard is sampled with no loops. Pretty nice. Also there is a great harpsichord, psalterium, and especially an awesome harp in the same refill. Worth getting.

when will it be released? one more question, i love reason but there aren't many high quality refills, even the commercial ones lack quality. what other instruments will be in this high end line? i would be happy to see really great stings, bass, woodwinds, brass and guitar refills. oh yeah, your sonic refill is one of the best refills i own(and i own many refills from zero-g to amg). will there be a sonic refill part 2? can't wait for that one.Squids wrote:On the cheaper side there are some

This line of high end (yet still low price) libraries for Reason is really cool. It is like turning Reason's NNXT into a virtual instrument dedicated to one great thing at a time. I don't want to spill the beans too much because M-Audio is going to make an announcement next week at Summer NAMM. But, I will tell you that this line does include a full high end orchestra (so like GPO for Reason... but different samples of course). It does include a couple for guitars, a bunch for drum kits that are very real sounding and more. They are less than a hundred dollars each but high-end like Giga libraries that cost many times more. They are 100-250+ meg sized instruments though so it is more for people that use Reason to track to other systems with Rewire or for live use (or for people with a lot of ram because Reason doesn't stream).defjamm wrote:when will it be released? one more question, i love reason but there aren't many high quality refills, even the commercial ones lack quality. what other instruments will be in this high end line? i would be happy to see really great stings, bass, woodwinds, brass and guitar refills. oh yeah, your sonic refill is one of the best refills i own(and i own many refills from zero-g to amg). will there be a sonic refill part 2? can't wait for that one.Squids wrote:On the cheaper side there are some

Also being released are 5 new Sonic Refill titles at $49 ea. I can hint about these too I guess since we're getting close. One is like a mini bass module with acoustic, electric and synth bass. Another is like a virtual guitar module. There's a Mellotron one, a human voice one and one that is like a synth pad module. Good variety like the other 15 volumes, different new sounds and great value for money. They're all done so they'll be ready to ship really soon.
That grand piano refill is done. So, hopefully it will be released soon. Anyone can feel free to bug M-Audio about wanting it soon. I am sure they like to hear the demand there is for such a thing. Reason users NEED some high end sounds for the NNXT. It is capable of some really cool things that other samplers don't do actually. We take full advantage of release triggering, alternating samples, complex layers and many other tricks it can do for expressive sound design.
Oh, sorry. I missed the question about "Sonic Refill part 2". There are more Sonic Refill volumes. Here's how it works. The "Sonic Refill" original box is actually volumes 1-5 that are $49. ea through M-Audio dealers. Then OmniSoundz GM refill is vol.6 Vol. 7-15 are completely different sounds from the original Sonic Refill box so they ARE part 2. In fact, you can even get them in discount packs of three on www.esoundz.com or you can get them cheap ala carte from stores like guitar center, audio midi and other M-Audio dealers world-wide.
The ones I mentioned above are vol. 16-20 + the high end line of at least 10 new refills. That makes 30 refills available from SR. That's some pretty good sound options for Reason users!

Y'know, I heard that the recent ElectroMechanical ReFill made use of release triggers, but I haven't dug in yet to see how it's done: NNXT is indeed my favorite sampler, but I didn't know this was possible with it!Squids wrote:We take full advantage of release triggering,

There is a trick to be able to do it. It doesn't actually have release triggers but it can be done.Markleford wrote:Y'know, I heard that the recent ElectroMechanical ReFill made use of release triggers, but I haven't dug in yet to see how it's done: NNXT is indeed my favorite sampler, but I didn't know this was possible with it!Squids wrote:We take full advantage of release triggering,![]()
