Reaktor Scenario vs Ableton??

I've been working with Scenario & goBox in reaktor and am pretty pleased with them but Ableton seems to have many tricks up it's sleeve. Although I don't really need all the MIDI enhancements in v4 it looks like v3 can do things which Scenario/goBox cannot, even if they are dropped into another Host, i.e. FL Producer, which allows for 'live' tweaking as well.

Any comments or suggestions?

Scenario and gobox are a great combination, but have nowhere near the power of Live. Live is more like a sequencer, with audio and (now) midi clips which can be recorded, effected, mangled, etc. Most importantly, in Live everything can be edited extensively.

The reaktor ensembles are limited to what they have been designed to do (and do them very well). you are limited to the built in effects (unless you build a new ensemble). Reaktor's loop syncing is great, but not 100% reliable (it often guesses the wrong loop length).

There's really too much to go into here..but if you want to simply run a few loops in sync and mess with a few fx, scenario should fit the bill. If you want to go into more depth, head for Live.

Thanks Mark,

That's kind of what I figured. The little bit I've seen of Ableton from other performers kind of blew me away, seemed much more powerful as a 'live' performer than the Reaktor tools. But I wanted to get some feedback before I spend another wad of $$$.

You're talking about two VERY different applications here..comparing 2 of the 2,000 ensembles in Reaktor to Live is hardly fair.

Live out of the box is made for the stage, you have to tweak reaktor a bit to get the same results specifically, but you can go places in Reaktor that Live will never be able to follow..unless you load R4 into Live 4 that is.. :D

I have both & I wouldn't want to be without either. The cool thing about Reaktor is you can build a custom ensemble for each track you wanna do, and then load THAT into Live & use em both for a home run..tough to set-up maybe, but well worth it in the end I'd imagine. That's gonna be a powerful combination, I can't wait..thanks for the idea :P

Dear Lord... that sounds like it'd be off the hook.
I've tried a little something like that using Computer Muzys 'Live Room' mode to trigger 'loop' sequences (each of which is either an audio or midi track (i.e. patched into Reaktor VST)) but my machine barffed (not enough CPU cycles) so I haven't gotten very far. But CMuzys doesn't allow for live tweaking in the way I reckon Ableton can so the thought of Reaktor+Live is a mind scrambler indeed.

I love my Reaktor and it + Metasynth keep me VERY happy but it looks like I might be spending some more $$$ soon.

I wonder about using energyXT as well??
I've seen a few posts about using it live but I wonder how? I own eXT and am finally getting a grip on it but it seems like Ableton has it going on.

eXT is another thing you'll wanna use from within Ableton. Then inside eXT you wanna run something like ERA or EST. Then you want something like ERA running something like your monster synth of choice. The you want a napkin to wipe up the brains leaking out of your nose. Then you want a.........
