DAW without GUI

I always wanted to ask this, do you also think there could be a DAW without GUI at all? If someone were about to develop such a thing, I'd try it. I like playing keyboard and then I look at nothing, and as soon as I look onto a screen I don't really enjoy music, kind of.

The next change I would like is having the (MIDI) keyboard as the only input device. With every knob it would just get more difficult.

Actually there are "inputs" that are unlikely to be music, they could be the control. C-3+C#3 = start something.

One thing I'd like to mention is that I'm not thinking about commercial software. Such a DAW should probably be worth 0, sell for 0 and be liked 0. I don't care. I'm just thinking why no one has yet tried to create this. Maybe they have but it's hard to find. The only thing "like this" is KeyKit, but it has a GUI.

An arpeggio is a good start. Changing arpeggio styles by pressing certain keyboard keys. Anyway, I like the idea.

Hows about a hardware multitrack recorder with midi?

Actually a good idea. Admittedly I was thinking about a too futuristic thing like a "perfect siri" for making music. In the real world, if I don't happen to start any groundbreaking free software project about, I'll just look for hardware.

Use Ableton Live with Push and turn off the screen.

nerd has a good idea re hardware. The Elektron stuff seems to have a minimalist vibe the Octotrack or Digitakt, though they do have small screens.

What about the Squarp Instruments Pyramid?

Or was your idea to have more of a straight multitrack setup rather than a sequencer or sampler?

A. Dont look at the screen. If you have no self control...

B. Wear a blindfold.

Sorted.

Voyetra and PYRAMID are two interesting things. Voyetra seems to be based on a cursor, tracks, bars and re-recording a cell (a bar in a track). And PYRAMID seems to be like Ableton Live a bit.

To be honest, my idea was to see if removing one thing (the display, or the GUI) will help me creating music. A display presents a lot of things at once and therefore speeds up the whole process, and 99% of users will use a display. But I'm in a mood where I think I should try to forget about this for some time. I find a display an indicator of complication. A big state and lot's of contradicting functions need a display. A piano does not come with a display.

For "Don't look at the screen" and at the same time using a DAW, I need the thing that I was talking about. I don't think your comment added anything, but I don't know.

Low level comedy/sarcasm not your thing then...

My English isn't that good to notice when I write points of attack. I thought the word DAW in the title would have sorted it out, but obviously it didn't.

If you have to ask, you can't afford the answer

although i suppose the bank of buttons with labels could be considered a GUI to the truly pedantically inclined.
