W10-C9 and Generic ASIO

I'm running a Firebox on W10 with Cubase. I've noticed a slight performance gain over the Firebox ASIO driver with the new Generic ASIO Driver included in the latest C9 update. It's nothing ground breaking so far, maybe 10% on the Average Load of the VST Performance meter, but it seemed to have more effect on the Real Time Peaks. Not only are the peaks a little less, but evened out, the meter isn't fluctuating as much as with Firebox ASIO.

The Firebox is Legacy, no W10 support, but the driver does install in Compatibility Mode for W7 and work without issue so I'm wondering if any gain I'm experiencing is due to that or if others are seeing the same thing with current interfaces.

Another thing I'm wondering about is whether this is Steinberg's final solution for a patch to WASAPI, or if development is in the works for a true WASAPI driver which does away with ASIO altogether.
