Anybody here used the Chicken Systems Translator 6 to convert sample libraries?

I'm wanting to convert Kurzweil libraries to software sampler file extensions.

Thanks

Translator is glitchy AF and barely does what I want it to do. I understand there is some complexity in the various formats, but the app itself is a beast that is hard to work with. I haven't tried dealing with your situation, but I have tried converting Battery/Ableton/SFZ/NKI libraries and I'm rarely pleased with the results.

It's not really good. In fact, it rarely works, but when it does you can save a lot of time! I noticed that it works better with older formats, so if you want to convert a Kurzweil instrument to Sf2, it'll work. EXS24 to Sfz or vice versa, it'll work. If you want to convert newer formats it rarely work at all...

Yup, that's my experience exactly. I was really, really excited when I first got it, but my enthusiasm has waned considerably since then. It's a shame, since that functionality would be super useful.

It's pretty unreliable. I just converted a few libraries from exs24 to Tal sampler and every few instruments required me to manually locate samples even though they were in the exact folder location with the correct sample name. Annoying as hell. Unfortunately there's nothing better.

What about Awave Studio?

What I'm wanting to do is convert SF2 to SFZ and possibly Kurzweil to SFZ

Awave Studio is surprisingly capable and much more user friendly. Try the demo it still lets you convert although only one per session. http://www.fmjsoft.com/awavestudio.html#main
I have Translator as I wanted to convert Samplecell to Independence but never really had much joy with it. I kind of gave up. Awave doesn't convert Samplecell to Independence but it gave me oprion to convert to other useful formats.

Does it works well converting sfz to let's say EXS24/Kontakt 3 instruments? If it does, then I should have bought this instead of Translator 6.

I don't really know as I never bought the full version of Awave. I just used the demo with the limitations of converting one file at a time. I suggest you try the demo. With regard to Translator I'm sure it's capable of doing great job but I found it somewhat awkward to use. Particularly as I was trying to convert SampleCell Mac to a PC format. Also my SampleCell sets weren't particularly complicated so in the end I found easier just to start them from scratch and I ended up using the samples in Kontakt I think. I used Awave to convert SD11 to Wave. Normally Garth, I think that's his name from Chicken Systems turns up when these threads start.

I tried the demo of awave but it doesn't write to sfz.

I did find another program called sfzed, but it looks like it only does one file at a time.

so far extreme sample converter seems to work well for batch conversions. only problem i'm having now is the way it sets up the folders :dog:

What is the best sample converter currently available?

In my experience, Extreme Sample Converter. The problem is that it haven't been updated in a while so it only covers older formats, but at least it works most of the time.

Maybe there's a Mac alternative I haven't heard of though...
