Sandy Denny forgotten? Seriously?
Pretty much considered 'legendary' I would have thought. Fairport would be considered pivotal to modern folk music, particularly Denny's time with them.

Interesting voices - that Barbara looks really haunting, Yma - I don´t know what to say. Sarah Vaughan is hardly a forgotten one, but it doesn´t matter, what a great voice, she´s always been one of my favorite lady singers. BTW, "forgotten" is often relative. Eva Cassidy is a good example, she died in cancer at a young age, was very shy, never got a good recording deal. But is she forgotten? I would say she´s remebered by the music lovers all over the world, much more and longer than many pop icons.

Yes and Sandy Denny - I was at one of the first gigs Fairport Convention did after her death, it was a very sad loss for all of us.

There was a ton of hype about Eva Cassidy in the media after she died. I didn't think she was that great of a singer. To my mind, people were drawn in more by the sad story, than any unique talent. I was listening to a CD of Doris Day recently, in her prime she was excellent.
This is the same method MJ used when he was working on Anthony Marinelli's Thriller.

I heard first Eva Cassidys voice and records, then just recently heard the "sad story" and that she wasn´t even alive anymore. I think people are a bit too cynical today. Dissing any of the artist wasn´t the point of this thread. Of course all the opinions are wellcome.
P.s. Doris Day was a perky multi-talent - even John Lennon had a crush on her (because of the movies where he spend a lot time in the 50´s).
An other, maybe not forgotten, but great is Julie London. Her interpretation of this is second to none:
