I know of Mainstage, but are there any other apps that will do automatic multi sampling of instruments?

I just remembered that Renoise can easily handle this task, and can output SFZ files natively. Combined with Redux, it’s a pretty dang good solution.

Virtual instruments only... but for that, it’s pretty brilliant

Yeah. It would work if there were an external instrument plugin, similar to how Ableton or Bitwig have. I'll look around for something like that, would be pretty cool.

I did a variety of complex sampling sessions with AutoSampler (Mainstage). It worked like a charm. It's cheap too. Is the output format EXS24 a problem for you? Do you prefer SFZ?

I was having problems with Mainstage freezing halfway through a render. I honestly don't know the best format, but SFZs seem to be more agnostic. Kontakt would work, but that interface gives me the heebie jeebies.

Probably you've set Input Gain too hot. No overdrive allowed or Mainstage will hang. Check before you start render by playing the keyboard in Auto Sampler.

What are your samplers you prefer?

That's good to know! Should I throw a limiter across it, or does that even work? Mainstage is such a PITA to work with. It's easier to use Logic itself, why didn't they bundle it there too?

Ableton's sampler (but doesn't take SFZ), Redux (pretty amazing, really), Falcon (accepts SFZ).

I like how Kontact is self contained, don't have directories with loose samples everywhere, but not much else. The libraries themselves are good and the libraries you can buy are great, but Falcon's interface runs laps around it. The EXS sampler has the worst interface ever, but I mostly use Ableton for making music.

No Limiter. Just play the keyboard in Auto Sampler before render to check if Input Gain is set too high. Especially play low notes. They have more energy level than high notes.

Ableton's sampler ... Falcon
Good news: Ableton Sampler and UVI Falcon both can import EXS24 format.

Does Redux import SFZ format? Is that the point?

Redux will handle SFZ, but I think we’ve lost the point, lol. I have Chickensys Translator, and it always sucks having to convert file formats. If I choose SFZ, most things will just work.

The end result isn’t what I’m worried about, less than the sampling tools themselves.
