When downloading the latest version of my DAW today, I was wondering how much longer that parallel world of 32 and 64-bit versions of DAW's will continue. Till the last 32-bit plugin has disappeared?
And the same goes for plugins, many of which are still available in both versions. Do 32-bit DAW's and plugins keep each other alive? :hihi:

In a nutshell, what are the advantages of 64 bits, if any?

32-bit plugins and DAW's will eventually disappear. Cubase, Reason and Logic are already 64-bit only, and don't feature 32-bit bridges either to my knowledge. There's probably more.

Hopefully 32 bit will be gone very soon. I write software and a poll of all my users showed not a single one has a 32 bit os any more so I have just today ditched 32 bit - makes life much easier

Why does MS continue to sell 32-bit versions of Windows operating systems, even of W10?

As with iOS, Apple will require all new Mac apps on their store to be 64-bit. The wording in their announcement about 10.13 being the last version to support 32-bit "without compromise" suggests it's for the chop soon.

For all those computers that have less than 4 gig of RAM. They want people with older computers to use their newest OS too. It's Microsoft, not Apple!

AFAIK, if you have bought a 32 bit app, you'll still be able to download it (not buy it).

2GB is the minimum for x64, but business and industry are much slower to adopt so MS will have 32-bit for as long as it has a significant billable support legacy.
I miss MindPrint. My TRIO needs a big brother.

I have an iPhone 4 which is stuck on iOS9 and can still download the 32-bit apps. I’m going to download them all to my iTunes Desktop though, as a backup.

To my knowledge, mostly low spec'd devices, like tablets coming with only 1 or 2 GB of Ram will run a 32-bit Windows 10. Not sure why, but, they seem to think it is a better idea to run 32-bit, probably, because 64-bit applications typically address more Ram?

Sure, but just don't open a second tab in your browser :hihi:

Because Microsoft has excellent legacy support and some places are stuck with 32-bit processors and apps for whatever reason.

iPhone 4 doesn't support ios 9. You must mean ios 7.

And apparently ios isn't being autocorrected by ios on this forum. Nice. Great job Apple. Safari text editing is a disaster and autocorrect is often half-assed.

Lots of industry still has ancient hardware. In fact, COM ports are still desirable in mission critical systems.

What, you people haven't started using 128-bit yet?
[W10-64, T5/6/7/W8/9/10/11/12/13, 32(to W8)&64 all, Spike],[W7-32, T5/6/7/W8, Gina16] everything underused.
