Can someone please help me understand the difference between these two (other than one is standalone, and the other is VST?) Does Renoise have anything that Redux doesn't? Is there a decent tutorial covering how to use either one (a la Groove 3 or MacProVideo)? I have never used a tracker before, but am intrigued . . . .

Thanks!

Shortest possible..

Renoise is a DAW, Redux is a sampler.
Mac Mini M4 Pro | 14 Cores (10P/4E) | 48GB RAM | Studio One | Reason | Bitwig Studio | Logic Pro | FL Studio | Cubase Pro | Waveform | Reaper | Renoise | ~1000 VSTs/AUs | ~350 REs

So if I already have a DAW I like, will Redux give me all of the other, non-DAW capabilities of Renoise?

Redux not able to use the third-party plugins of Renoise https://www.renoise.com/tools and there are some(tons) quite useful

Pretty much, but not completely I guess. Redux is a phrase sampler, tracker style, I would say you are set with Redux to use in your favorite DAW.

Redux does not have the typical DAW features though, but you don't seem to be interested in those anyway :)

Similarly interested. Redux appears to be a VST/AU with some of the tracker abilities built in. Renoise describe it as the little brother of the full blown tracker software but obviously it can be hosted in other DAWs (although Renoise has rewire support if you want to use it that way). There are some good videos on the website to get started with that really explain things clearly.

Demos for both products are practically fully-functional, and non time-limited. Running the demo songs is an eye-opener :tu:

Redux has the ability to create ‘phrases’ in Renoise parlance, it is NOT a phrase sampler, a phrase sampler is something like an sp202 where samples can only be recorded in phrases and not played back melodically.
Redux is a traditional sampler and can be played as such.

It's actually pretty simple. Redux is Renoise's sampler as a VSTi.
