Hi!

We've recently announced "ReAxis", an amp sim based on MESA/Boogie Triaxis (rev. TX5A): https://www.kvraudio.com/news/mercurial ... -aax-38935

Few questions appeared in another thread, so I thought it is fine to create one specifically for this product. So we can discuss everything here. Hope it is fine.

Well, gonna have to use 3rd party IRs, but it's never gonna sound the same as cabinets modelled the Mercuriall way... :/
Hey guys! Indeed, no Mesa cabs for the moment. I hope this is something we can address in an update.

Post

I really hope that you can address it, too! To me, Mesa sounds Mesa only through a Mesa cabinet :)

EDIT: Your U530 has a Rectifier cab, why not include it from day one, at least? Then add the oversized 4x12 and 2x12 in an update? :)

I guess, in real world, most people have cabinets matched with their amps by default and hardly bother to explore more complex options. But in the world of amp simulations, it's easy to switch between dozens of different cabinet IR's in search for better sound. And I've noticed that there is really nothing special in having a matched cabinet - it's just one possible character. Sometimes it fits my music well, other times I use cabinet IR based on different brand than amp, because that combination happened to sound better. So I think having no Mesa cabinets in this plugin is not that important for the sound, but only creates a subjective feeling of "incompleteness".

I'm looking forward to trying this!
I use torpedo wall of sound cabs, and they have some great Mesa ones.
Try the demo and if you like it, you only have to buy one cabinet and you're good to go.

Back to Reaxis - hopefully there'll be an introductory price, especially if we own one or more of the current amps

We'll see what we can do with the Mesa cabs. I personally would want one, of course =)

Re. the introductory price and special price for existing customers - yup.

btw what's the copy protection like in Mercuriall plugins? If it's C/R, is it possible to remove license activations from one computer and activate on others? I have a lot of laptops...

Post

Hi!
We don't have license deactivation mechanics. If you run our of activations for a product, get in touch with our support through www.mercuriall.com and ask for more.

I have a question about power amp.
I've never used a real amp, so I have no idea what kind of influence on sound does power amp make. I assume that ReAxis still has the same power amp models from Spark? Then I wonder, how it will compare soundwise to Mesa power amp like 2:NINETY? Will using a non-Mesa power amp model "break" the signature Mesa sound in any way?

Post

If they're doing ReAxis as a 1:1 emulation of Triaxis, then it will not have built-in poweramps, but you'd have to use other plugins and/or IRs recorded through poweramps for that. Unless they are going to model the 2:90 as well... that would definitely be great!

And yes - different poweramps will impart different things to the sound. Poweramps have their own saturation, low and high end response, that is going to influence what the preamp puts out, for sure.

When will we be able to beta test/demo it?

Hi!
The poweramp is important and does add its character to the sound, of course.
ReAxis uses our existing models of poweramps where we invested a lot of time and research. We have not modeled 2/90. For that we'd need to find a good hardware prototype of it, buy and examine if it can be modeled accurately with our technology. The preamp itself took a looooong time to create, so we have not yet looked into the Mesa 2/90 idea.

Hi!
There is no set date yet. We will announce it as soon as everything is ready :)

Damn, a decent "chunk" (pun intended) of the sound won't be there then :( The most often used combination is Triaxis and 2:90... It's what you can hear all over Ensiferum's first two albums, first Wintersun album, etc. etc. etc.

I hope you guys can borrow a 2:90 for modeling. It really is important for the full Triaxis experience.

Post

It's hard to find someone who would want to borrow it, as we will need to partially disassemble it :D
So at this point of time no guarantees can be given from our side, sorry!

However, I can't say our poweramp models sound bad with it. Different? Yes. Bad? No =)
