Way to update from Kontakt 5.5.1 to 5.5.2 (while avoiding Native Access?)

As per the the title ... I recently bought part of the Dronar Kontakt Library, but only after confirming with the vendor that, as stated in the manual, it works with Kontakt 5.5.

This was crucial for me because of all the problems I've heard re Kontakt 5.6 and Native Access which I just don't want to risk.
(Please let's not get on a tangent like "Well, 5.6+ and Native Access all works fine for me, only idiots have problems"; if you're good, great; but too many people have experienced otherwise; the topic is not whether I should stay with 5.5 , but rather is whether I can via 5.5.2.)

Anyway, I installed the Dronar library but, as you can see in this desktop video,

https://screencast-o-matic.com/watch/cb6u2F2cXw

I get this message: "Your version of Kontakt is too old to load this file. You can update to the latest version by exiting Kontakt and starting Service Center."

I don't know why I'd get this, as my version is 5.5.1, which falls under the min spec of Kontakt 5.5. I've written the vendor but as it's the weekend I thought maybe I can help myself by upgrading via the Service Center to Kontakt 5.5.2 (which is the highest I'm ready to go right now). But no go, the only thing the Service Center offers is Kontakt 5.6.something.

This article

https://support.native-instruments.com/ ... this-file-

tells me to update via Native Access, but 1) I'm not touching that with a 10-foot pole and 2) I doubt it would let me go to just 5.5.2, it seems like some kind of enforcer droid designed to sheperd us all into 5.6+, whether NI is technically on top of things or not.

So, is there any way (except via Native Access) to update to 5.5.2?

Any help much appreciated.

What a dude, thanks! Only thing is, I've never updated manually, rather I always used the service center. How does one install the 5.5.2 update once I download it?

good question, I've always used service center, and now native access. So I can't help on this question, but I bet that it's a simple installer.

You just run the installer you download from there, simple as that.

NI lost its right to any presumption on my part that its processes are "simple as that" a while ago ...

Anyway, it did actually work smoothly (the coin landed heads this time) I've got Kontakt 5.5.2 runningbut I'm still gettng the same error message from Dronar. So I reckon it's a Dronar issue. Hopefully the vendor will be able to advise on Monday.

Thanks ED. That leads us to the culprit: the manual (and Time & Space's sales rep) were both wrong. They say it works with V5.5, but following your advice, I can see that all these NKIs were saved with v5.6.

Awesome, Time & Space / Gothic Music, your wrong info has cost me £50. Hopefully there is still a v5.5 kicking around, otherwise I'm due a no-questions-asked refund.

Doing one's own pre-purchase homework in a "let the buyer beware" spirot is pretty useless if they get their own pre-sales info wrong. :bang:

You can still update to 5.6. Last version available for regular download on Update Manager website is 5.6.6. Try it, you can always revert to 5.5.2 if you keep the installer you've just downloaded.

why not update to the latest version?

Go with 5.6.6, it doesn't require Native Access, it's a safe bet and most libs will want 5.6+ as there are some neat features introduced. The said problems (having to reinstall/re-authorize stuff) concern 5.6.8+

Actually, the issue is on NA side of things, not Kontakt side.

OK, all's well that ends well. Contacted Gothic Music via FB, they very quickly sent me the v5.5 compatible NKIs, and it all works fine. Awesome first impressions, can't wait to explore more. Thanks again all, especially ED.
