But seriously that is a lot of code to just let die when you consider how much software is in Cakewalk's catalog. If they have any kind of market share at all it seems like someone would pick the ball up and run with it.
Unless Gibson are being d-bags and claiming rights to the code. If so then I'm afraid the future is not bright.
But the people who write the code for CW are still alive and looking for new jobs. Perhaps they will form their own company and create some new products in the future.
I'm not sure if CW's demise is due to poor management by Gibson or just poor sales but I'm of the opinion that there is still a market for CW products. Enough to satisfy a mindless money grubbing corporation ? Maybe not but enough to sustain and support a small, well run operation ? Only those bean counters know for sure.....

Why would anyone reinvest big bucks in these high end desktop options who all have a similar long term commercial environment to respond to? This development undermines future investment in specialist pro DAW'S and high pricing business strategy's particularly

The highest form of knowledge is empathy, for it requires us to suspend our egos and live in another's world. It requires profound, purpose‐larger‐than‐the‐self kind of understanding.

Cakewalk make several VSTi's .... this thread is in the right subforum. The 'axes Sonar' thread is also in the right subforum. It can't really be helped if people are discussing Sonar here too in the context of the company as a whole, but it's definitely worth alerting the instruments sub-forum that the developer of their VSTi - or the VSTi they were considering buying (they're still for sale) - is shutting down.

Wow... I can't stand people like this. It really does buy in to the 'Gibson is where products go to die' thing - seemingly from team morale alone.egbert101 wrote:What a git.Teksonik wrote:Hmmm perhaps Cakewalk employees are actually jumping for joy now....

Gibson are due to die themselves soon, read so many shitty reviews for their recent guitars.
And theyre focusing on a market they cant hope to stay afloat in under their current management.
I have a feeling we havent seen the last of Cakewalk though.
