SS2 vs. ST2 engine question

Hey Squids et al.,
[I confess I haven't been around much lately, and I hope no one will have an "asked and answered" objection if this has already been covered.]
As a ST2 owner, will I have any reason to run the SS2 sounds in the SS2 engine? Does the SS2 engine have anything the ST2 engine doesn't? Will the sounds require any kind of authorization themselves, or will they be drag-and-drop into the instruments folder, like SS1 sounds?
I know these aren't crucial issues, but hey, while I'm looking forward to SS2, I'm sitting here wondering what the experience will be like (compared to what I already know from ST2).
Thanks!
-Mike

There are only a few advantages to using the Sonik Synth 2 GUI vs. just reading the sounds from your ST2 interface. First, it is possible to do both. SampleTank 2 will be able to read ALL of the ST engine based stuff including these modules (SS2, Studiophonik and...).
One advantage of using the sounds within the Sonik Synth 2 interface is that it is a different ID plug-in that can browse to another area than SampleTank 2. ST2 can only browse to one area on one hard drive. If you wanted to put the Sonik Synth 2 sounds in a different location then that would allow two different ST engines to point to two different places regardless of where they are on the hard drive(s). (By the way, this is also an advantage of the ST2 LE I believe).
The other is pure aesthetic. If you like the layout, look and vibe of Sonik Synth 2 then... it's there for your enjoyment. I do. It's inspiring. But, the flexibility is there to also work with it all under the roof of SampleTank 2 GUI for a lot of benefits there too.
As far as proprietary features developed for Sonik Synth 2, we've decided to make those features updates for ALL of the ST2 engine based products so that their sounds are all still compatible in this system. That means that some very cool features will be added to ST2 as well as SS2 and SP over time... I can't discuss them yet but you are welcome to email me your requests.

Oh man... I actually can't think of much that would improve ST2!Squids wrote:I can't discuss them yet but you are welcome to email me your requests.

I can. But, it's all relative. There are many unique things that SampleTank 2 does that are great as long as you have plenty of content to take advantage of it. Then there are things I'd like to see it have in the future... even basic things like splits or other convenient tweakable performance parameters (velocity as one of the controllers in the midi cntrl section) and other things I have on my mind. There are also some things that can be done to enhance/improve the Stretch engine which I think is amazing. So, its good to know that this is something that will be looked at and will have a good future plan, even though the present features are going to be incredibly useful and satisfying.
I'm always striving and never fully satisfied but that makes progress that you guys can benefit from so... that's just the way we work. Both IK and SR have been ahead of the game in a lot of areas. While other companies may be catching up to products we've had for a few years we've got the NEXT new thing coming... even more than you guys know of actually.

Definitely splits, also crossfading between layers, and routable global effects. I find the Korg Combi model to be good(it could be improved) in this regard - others may disagree. Multiple arppegiators(one per layer) with human feel realtime random note generation would be in the impossible dream category, as well as multiple breakpoint envelopes aka Absynth, Chameleon, Crystal etc.

Sounds like some good shape shifting shape shifter. I agree those things would be cool to have in there. You never know...
