A question that is probably going to end up being stupid...

It looks to me like with the current holiday sale the prices for the individual libraries vs. bundles don't add up. Take the Agitato series, where the three individual libraries are each $44 but the bundle is $269. Adagio is similar where the individual libraries are $119, $119, $89, and $59, and the bundle is $499.

What am I missing here?

First keep in mind that you get a larger discount on bundles.

Second, check the content. The bundles contain an extra library and more articulations than the separate libraries. But if it were me, I would get the Anthology Strings and take the big discount cause it is a far better library.

(For the record, I have all of the libraries mentioned including Anthology Strings).

Thanks, yeah it is hard to compare all the content and keep it straight in my head. I assumed that there was more content in the bundles but I'm not sure it's all stuff I would use. I am not really that big on sordinos. I'm really looking for something that does nice agile legato with some definition (was looking at CSS for a while but it just sounds too "blurry" for my tastes). I have LASS and it's similar, where the legato lines are just too smooth for my satisfaction. You are the second person to recommend Anthology to me today so it's looking like that might be what I should get, even though it's a bit more than I wanted to spend. The savings are real though ;)

By the way, if you wouldn't mind, could you summarize why you think Anthology is a much better library? I'm also curious if it has the same or similar patches to the Agitato Legato Arpeggio content. The 8dio site is a bit strange in how it details what is in each library. Some of it is not explained in very much detail (what is "extra terrestrial legato", for example - they don't qualify this at all) and some of the content lists don't match up with the way that it appears in some of the associated demo videos.

Anthology is a different front end with fewer articulations than the other libraries. It used to be that if you owned all of the Adagio and Agitato bundles, then Anthology was free. If that is still the case, then by all means, get the two bundles and snag the free library as you will have far more content.

What Anthology does well is put everything in one place. It is a clean front end and you can design the strings to your needs- sections, articulations, etc. It also fixes several pesky issues from the original releases including weird bowing issues and even some clicks and odd samples that just didn't sound like they came from the same section.

I use CSS quite a bit, but I agree about the "blurry" you refer to, and 8DIO definitely handles the rosin differently. But I would say Anthology is better compared to modern string libraries such as CSS.

On other option in the same price range is USE by Auddict. The sections are sold separately, and consists of smaller groups of players, but the sound is INCREDIBLE! Half price right now would get you all the sections for around $300.
