Is komplete 11 worth getting?

Is komplete 11 worth getting? I'm just a beginner at music recording and want some good quality softwere products to mess around and recording songs with. I'm not that serious about music and would just do it for fun occasionally. I currently have an old sonar x3 studio that comes with a bunch of instruments like zeta+ 1.5, dimension le, etc. I also have Dune CM that came with a computer music magazine I bought a while ago.
Do you think I can get by recording quality and loud sounding songs with the stock sonar x3 instruments or would I need something better like Komplete 11? I notice the sounds in the sonar instruments aren't as loud and thick as the komplete instruments. Do you guys know why this is the case?
I've wanted some of the products of K11 because they seem to be popular products and have lots of tutorials for them while the instruments I have with sonar don't have as many tutorials.
What do you guys think?

IMHO, Komplete is absolutely the best way to start. It covers a lot of ground in a lot of different ways. Most people wait for a sale, but, even if you have to pay full price for it the cost per product is still rather cheap.
So it's $100 off right now which is a decent savings and you might get it a bit cheaper from vendors. During the occasional super sales you can get it for about half price.

You're gonna get a real mixed bag of responses on this one. Some people love Komplete and think it's a steal and others think it's got one or two good products and everything else is meh.3ptguitarist wrote:Is komplete 11 worth getting? I love it. I'm glad I got it. And I have well over a hundred synths.
But don't rush. Wait until it goes on sale and it does quite often.

Yes - it's worth getting.
You probably won't end up using everything that's included,
but it doesn't take buying many individual products to equal or exceed the price of the whole collection.
Best to get it when there's a sale though.

I started out just like you (even using Sonar). I was on the fence for quite awhile on Komplete, but got it last summer. A very good purchase for me, a good "starter set"

Shit, of course it's worth getting.
Komplete U, on the other hand, probably not if you're starting out

Komplete 11 is IMO the best bang for your buck plugin bundle you can get.
I mean there are some things I personally don’t use from it. Other then driver I usually don’t use the effects like the eqs and delay (I have my own go-tos in that category) but i use most of the bundle
Kontakt speaks for itself, it being essentially an industry standard sampler is nothing new.
Reaktor and the ensembles are top notch. Reaktor itself is a very complicated program that I would never recommend to beginners but the ensembles are very beginner friendly, and really fun. And once you learn more about syntheses reaktor can become a whooole different world that’s really great to explore.
Massive, Absynth, and FM8 are all solid, awesome synth plugins that cover basically any sound you could need to make.
guitar rig can be used for cool effects, especially with the tractor fx they add with it.
And then Battery is my Drum sampler of choice.
So yea...Lots of really good stuff.
Would absolutely say it’s worth it!
Also, while unrelated to your main question, investing in a different daw might be bennificial too. I noted you mentioned using an old X3 as your main daw.
Sonar is of course, dead currently, and you will probally find better stability, as well as more up to date features, in a more recently updated daw.
(Reaper or Mixcraft is my recommendation for beginners due to their low price but any daw will work)
Anyways best of luck

You don't need top-quality golf clubs for the odd weekend round of pitch 'n' putt3ptguitarist wrote:I'm not that serious about music and would just do it for fun occasionally. Given your need for a bit of occasional fun, I'd say you have more than what you need. Just keep having fun until such a time as you feel that you have outgrown your current equipment, or you catch the bug and just get really into what you are doing.
Despite Komplete currently coming in at a discount, it's not the best time to buy. At various other points in the year it sells cheaper. Give yourself until then to grow into your new hobby. You can even demo many of the synths and effects that come in Komplete, before laying out the cash.

Getting loud and thick sounds is not just about what presets come with synths, but also how you layer sounds, and use effects. These are important techniques to learn before investing more.3ptguitarist wrote:

You have two 'lite' versions of well-regarded synths, to play with, and there are a ton of great freebies to augment them.
If you need help in sourcing tutorials to help beef up your current sound pallette, I could probably find you some good stuff.

If you're into "recording" and "songs", you rpobably don't want to mess with synths too much and just pick the ones that have lots of presets with nice browser, if at all. Komplete also has a ton of sampled Kontakt instruments aimed at popular music production.

That's how it's often represented, but really, it's just a host for a different kind of plugin that also happens to be modular. I use it as much or more as a host for the excellent Reaktor ensembles that come with Komplete as well as those that are free in the library as I do as a modular system.egbert101 wrote:Reaktor is a great modular system, but I'd never use it because I don't like that workflow.

The value of komplete really depends on how much you use it. I got my komplete 11 by lurking the secondhand market and got it for around half the new price, I think it's worth more than that but I definitely won't pay full price for it.
I use many of the Kontakt libraries in all my projects and sometimes the individual synths too, but I never use Reaktor. The synths might be powerful, but I'm more of a preset guy, so having a bunch of different synths doesn't really add value for me. The real values for me are the full version of Kontakt, the Kontakt libraries (especially the drums) and the effects (which many people forget), and for those, it's definitely worth the price I paid. If you think you'll the synths a lot, it might even worth more for you.

You're missing out. There are some really great synths in Reaktor. Use Komplete Kontrol to access the presets without having to futz with Reaktor.shidostrife wrote:The value of komplete really depends on how much you use it.
