Guys, look, shoot me down in flames if you like, but I have an idea. This is such a strong and respectful community that I think it would work.
A chart for downloaded songs.
Any song that is offered up for KVR's to DL, is eligible for a chart position, and can move up/down, whatever. Just like the real thing!
Aside from giving us all a chance to say "Hey, I'm number 1" - and subsequently giving us all an aspiration - it will be a decent pointer for newbies as to what is currently hot on the kvr music front.
Prob should be a monthly chart, of say 20 tracks? Dunno. Not sure how it would be collated either, but there must be a way?? We would also need KVR admins to set the chart up? Basically, just an idea to work on.
What's the feeling?

Thats a really good idea, but you need all the files on one site to be able to varify the DL numbers. As Vurt said, we dont all have access to those figures.
Maybe some kind soul will make a site dedicated to this.

I like the idea, but how would we track the number of downloads? most tracks are on other sites. Perhaps we could get people to submit a score or something....

Another point. I DL a lot of tunes, but if i dont like them, i bin them. So the DL count would prob be equally, but the play count qwould be very diff. Some trqx from here i play a lot, so maybe you could set up a Playlist Chart instead of a Download Chart. everytime you play a track, you come in and tick a box or something ?

What if all links to songs from a KvR page had to go through a redirector? Something like:vurt wrote:how would we know?

I'm guessing it should only count clicks for logged-in users though, and ignore any where you clicked on your own song (hence the songowner link!)

Hmmm .... Ok ..... lets put the bits together ..
KVR puts a hyperlink on the left called "KVR POP Chart" (Or summat else that makes us all feel like Ant n Dec, etc).
This contains the top twenty, with the total number of DL's stated. (Plus a direct link?)

What if we had a thread .... where we posted all chart contenders, and you HAD to DL the songs from the link you posted in within that thread. Is there any way to track that within KVR????

There should be an automatic rating system, where I can give 1 ... 10 points to a song, similiar to the instruments/FX ratings here at kvr.

Alternatively ..... If someone had a load of space available, we could all upload our potential chart toppers to that site, and then the DL's could easily be monitored???

Of course, you could say this will deter traffic from our own sites, however, people could be advised that to hear more of the same they need to go to the relevant KVR's site! So, could work as promotional tool as well.
