Hi

Does any one know why when I put my audigy 2 soundcard on t the 2ms latency the vsti's start to crackle. I would put it on 4ms because its fine on that but you can notice the latency from my a-station.

It not my cpu f**king it cause the meter in cubase sx is only on 1%, it's doing my head in so if anyone knows why its doing it that would be great.

If you are getting crackles in your audio its a definite sign that your cpu can't keep up, no matter what the cpu monitor says. I don't know much about Cubase's cpu monitor, but I would guess that it is only measuring the amount of CPU used by Cubase itself, and not the total amount being used by the other parts of your system (audio drivers). At 2ms latency it is likely that your audio driver is overloading the cpu without it showing up on the cubase meter.

Unfortunately this would not be surprising at all with Creative cards and drivers. I'm surprised that you can even get it down to 4ms, though I'm even more surprised that you notice the difference between 2ms and 4ms...

2ms on an Audigy2 is tough to get ,4ms is pretty damn good.
A lot of times host cpu meters are inaccurate cause they don't show spikes.
Which asio drivers are you using? You could try and set Cubase to above normal priority.
Bring up your vsti and open taskmanager,,without touching anything, watch to see if cpu spikes up and down.
As always make sure start up progs are at a minimum.

You should check the kx drivers ( www.kxproject.com ) and see if it changes anything. I use them on a SBLive 5.1 @ 5ms and no problems with crackles or cpu overload.

That would be incorrect sir. Pop up another application, and watch the CPU meter jump. It's total CPU usage, not just Cubase's usage.

That still doesn't mean that it is measuring the real, total processor usage, just the total of the open apps (and maybe not including the background processes and drivers). I have no way of knowing as I'm not a Cubase user.

My waveterminal 192 is back up and running, BTW.

It's alright I've sorted it, direct monitoring was on and when I turned it off it stopped doing it.

Yes, it is measuring the total CPU usage. It reflects what Windows Task Manager's CPU usage displays exactly. Now I haven't gone as far as using Performance Monitor and checking as well, but yes, what you see is what you get. And yes, I am using Cubase.
