What is everybody's predictions for the 2018 DAW market? See any new companies coming out with one? Maybe Spectrasonics??? Any companies going taking a step back or forward? Thoughts/?

I predict that after Image Like publishes FL Studio 20, its user base will grow by at least 2 %

There was a real slick (paid for) DAW released either this last year or perhaps the year before - can't remember it's name - I do remember it having a real 'slick' GUI.

Goodness knows the market is 'tight' - IMO releasing a DAW in the current market would not be a good idea.

I would love to see XTV3 jump out of oblivion...

Well so far we have Live 10.
Yes it was announced this year and many are already using it (including myself) through the beta. but technically it’s being released in 2018.
FL 20 is coming and it’s looking great early on.
NTrack 9 will be released (I saw something about it being it beta this morning)
Cubase 10 is due at the end of the year given Steinbergs history.
And Mulab 8 is in development I think.

Now being bolder Im predicting logic 11 or 10.5 and I believe it’s in some way going to have a separate iPad application (The iPad is slowly becoming a more powerful and viable production computer with the a10) not sure if it’s going to be as powerful as it’s Mac equivalent but I really believe apple could make an professional competitor with auria and Cubasis.
I’m expecting A Studio One 4
And a reaper 6 maybe.
Of cause there’s also point updates.
Who knows what bigwig and Reason and the like would throw in.
It should be interesting.

You talking about Lumet?
That’s the only new from scratch DAW I’m the past 2 years I can think Of.

Protools gets eaten by Gibson and hung out to dry a year later.

Roland releases their first daw onto the market.

Propellerhead drops further rack extensions development, and focuses on making it's first VST instrument.

Presonus releases Studio One 3.6 in May 2018 with a bunch of refinements.

Bigwig eventually adds Rewire for PC & Mac.

FL Studio 13 comes out and with a new keyboard Ipad app.

I actually have no idea how financially viable any of the programs are. However, I don't seen anything big coming down the pike or market share changing drastically. I think maybe one or two of the more worthy programs that don't sell as well as they could, may figure out that sexy sells and revamp their interfaces.

Personally, I'm hoping Bitwig releases their 1.x interface as a template. And that more developers start scaling their interfaces. Not predictions. Sorry.

I think Lumet (Lumit?) is now called SoundBridge. I like the interface, though not the font particularly. It's lacking some basics at this point.

Unfortunate name choice for the DAW in that Roku used to have a device called the "SoundBridge" which will continue to dominate the search engine results for a while.

I remember when Tracktion renamed its DAW to "Waveform", I was not crazy about that name choice.

I know. It is as if they really want the version number change to signify a major point release, just like it would if the version number were moving from 1.2 to 2.0 (just move the decimal point

Given the Windows Only aspect of Sonar, Microsoft themselves would seem like the ideal Suspect no?
They’ve been trying to appeal to professionals with Windows 10 and they even were scouting for audio programmers here a while back so it wouldn’t be too crazy. They certainly have more than enough money to pull of a purchase.
I don’t know, just speculating.

It’s for a few reasons actually.
Primarily to celebrate FLs Birthday.
Also to avoid the superstitious reputation of the number 13.

It does sound so weird however...FL 20. Meeugh. Gonna take a bit of time getting used to.
