Ever since I got accused of being Bill Drummond and Jimmy Cauty I've been completely obsessed with the KLF.
The synth on "Last Train to Transcentral" is the best synth sound ever, bar none.
I know they used a f**k load of samplers but does anyone know what synth that is? How can I replicate it? Is it an oscar?

yeah, they were very

back in 92-ish. Never really heard anyone like them who had 3/4 etc. vocalist on the same track (even though some of them were just samples.
One track with a metal vocalist and the next a country singer. Both going top 5.

Don't have any ideas about the synth though.

I've downloaded all thier stuff. Which is cool because they deleted thier catalogue. And I dont think they care.
I think they are the coolest band ever. They took the piss more than Malcolm McClaren could ever hope to.

I just asked on Bills site. Some guy claiming to re-create sounds? To do the KLFs LTTTC synth sound. Buggered if I'll pay a tenner but!

If I remember correctly they mainly used an Oberheim OB-8 along with a couple of Akai samplers (S900?).

For Oberheim-ish sounds you might want to try out polyIblit. More than one person has said it sounds like an Oberheim.

Anyone read the book Bad Wisdom by Bill Drummond and Mark Manning - aka Zodiac Mindwarp?

Its a crazy road trip anti novel.... great fun, highly thought provoking, extremely entertaining and a little bit disturbing....well worth a read.

Hmm, what´s so special about that sound?
Sounds very standard to me, and I think it´d be among the preset sounds of many synths outthere. Try synth1, should be capable of it, but iblit would give you a cleaner non-aliased sound.

Ok, tried for fun to see what I could do with synth1 to immitate this sound. Doesn´t sound excactly like it, but maybe with a bit more tweaking you can get a satisfying result, or try maybe cutting some of the lows with an EQ.

Whats synth1 when it's at home? I think it might be one that's bundled with cuebase? Am I right? In which case I don't have it. Well I do actually but I've gone legal and refuse to use dodgy software any more. Any chance of getting that sound from a freebee? Like one of the Triangles? Or Reasons Subtracter. Which isn't free but I want it big style.
I know it's a simple sound but I know nothing about synthesis; all those nobs just fry my head.

That sound really floats my boat. So it is special to me.
Am I right in thinking its got shiteloads of reverb? Like a comical amount. It sounds huge!

Whats an Oberhiem? I've read stuff on old synths and I have not come accross that one.

And "Bad Wisdom" will be getting amazoned. endmusik! You bastard! You have a hardcopy of The Manual!
