So what rare CD's with great synth work is worth seeking out? This one is worth seeking- The first CD release of "The Well-Temepered Synthesizer". First released on vinyl in 1969. Not sure of CD date, although a 2nd remastered release came out in 2001.

You want a brand new one on CD, first release? Amazon cost: $1075.40
You want the later remastered release (new)? $677.46

That price is rather steep, and new copies are drying up, but in fairness amazon.co.uk have a new CD of that album for £19.99 (I only know because I bought a new condition CD of that album a few months ago):
https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/offer-listi ... ynthesizer

I'm sure there's a few other retailers with new copies still knocking around.

And for anyone who is willing to go for used/pre-owned of Wendy/Walter's album, ebay.uk have a glut of them around £4-13, whilst discogs have 'very good' ones for around £25-50.

Huh, 'rare CD' sounds like a contradiction in terms just about. Rare LP is more likely. Shux for a moment i thought that perhaps my old LP copy of TWTS might be worth some $.

As for rare synth LPs i was gifted a copy of Tontos Expanding Head Band a few years ago
I, too, have a copy of Clockwork Orange.

I know right Gamma-UT!
I'm glad you can see it too: I was half contemplating getting out of bed (it's 7.19am) to do a screenshot, so you've saved me that :)
Maybe you and I should buy those two last new CD copies for £19.99 and flog them to the OP for $1000 :hihi:

Sounds like a plan.

But have no fear. Even if Wendy Carlos' back catalogue isn't quite as expensive as it seems, you may soon have a chance to bid big on Once Upon A Time In Shaolin at a federal auction: http://www.nme.com/news/music/martin-sh ... um-2167248

I would have said Tomita's Snowflakes are Dancing but it looks like it's available on YouTube. I guess you could hunt down a CD copy just to hear that... um... clean, digital sound :)

This is the same method MJ used when he was working on Anthony Marinelli's Thriller.

2 new Snowflakes are Dancing CD at Amazon: $64.98

I'm surprised that a lot of CD's are not available new anymore except from private parties. I never thought new CD's might become rare.

As for digital sound, some claim to hear a difference between compressed and un-compressed. Some artist even offer uncompressed audio as an online streaming option of their music.

NPR has an online audio test of compressed/uncompressed, you can take:

What's strange is that there is one used selling for £263.25. Yet 2 new ones at £19.99? Watch out for counterfeit copies.

This woke-up my curiosity. It happens that the boxed set of all four switched-on albums (which I have) is now at premium price too ($223,00): https://www.amazon.com/Switched-Boxed-J ... B00002DDS5
