Do You Produce Music for Fun or Professionally?

I produce as a hobby more than anything. It used to be a lot of fun, and sort of still is, but I find myself wondering sometimes lately why I put in all the effort to complete and mix tracks that a couple friends might listen to once or twice. I suppose I've got to stop thinking about it like that and just have fun. After all, what got me started years back was fiddling around with knobs on a vintage Minimoog my Uncle had.
Why do you guys do it - if not for money?

i do it for misery, apparently, because i hate computers (i especially hate the computer industry).
When i "finish" a piece of music, though, there's a brief reward of feeling like i made something i like and can try to share with others. i can partially revisit that sense of accomplishment by listening to my own music. But, ultimately, the reward is brief and limited, and i'm no better off for having done it. i'm just as poor and frustratedly limited in what i can do with my existence as i was before i made a piece of music.
Oh wait; i said all this already yesterday. http://dysamoria.com/blog/2018/02/the-h ... f-writing/

"Produce music" is such an interesting phrase.

I do produce music. I literally poop it out. It's very satisfying.CrystalWizard wrote:"Produce music" is such an interesting phrase.

Ha yeah. I bet it really feels good when a whole symphony comes out.

I'm totally with you. I always ask myself why I bother but 20 years later I'm still at it so there is something I enjoy about it. But isn't it so sad when you put all that work into something and hardly anyone listens. Although I wouldn't want someone to bother if they didn't like it anyhow.

The highest form of knowledge is empathy, for it requires us to suspend our egos and live in another's world. It requires profound, purpose‐larger‐than‐the‐self kind of understanding.
