Hi Folks,
I finally got around to trying to install Win XP on my new SATA drive. For now, I have my IDE drives disconnected. Do I need to do anything in the BIOS for the ASUS A7N8X Deluxe to make it see the SATA as the boot drive? I am pretty sure I do. The RAID utility is obviously the wrong option (a) One SATA drive and (b) I have no plans on using RAID.
Currently I have both my DVD-ROM and CD-RW hooked up, as well as my floppy drive in addition to the SATA drive which is connected to one of the two "RAID" pins on the motherboard.

You shouldnt need to do anything in the BIOS to allow XP to boot from a SATA drive as long as you can get XP installed on to the drive with the SATA drivers in place.
..and Ive found that to be not quite as simple as it should be, at least with W2K (ie hitting F6 when it prompts for 'Other SCSI devices, and putting in a floppy disk with drivers for the SATA controller and having it all work fine and dandy...)
I've actually found the best solution to be a customised ('streamlined') install CDROM with a version of W2K with the correct drivers on it.
Takes a bit of faffing, but there's a fair bit of info available on it from Google...

Somehwre there's an app that helps you make streamlined discs but I only have the list at work. PM me if you havent got any further by Tuesday, which is the next time I'll be able to look for it...

I found articles with the F6, and Floppy with drivers recommendation. Let me see what I can do. Hopefully I won't need to PM you on Tuesday

I have my XP installation CD (it has XP-sp1 included) copied to my HD. As far as I can tell, what I need to do is get my SATA drivers somewhere in the XP directory tree - I presume c:\XP\i386

Have my disk ready .. which only means that I have my next problem at hand 
.. Around the time that the boot process starts partitioning the new disk, my computer switches itself off. 
At least the slipstreaming worked .. thanks Whyterabbit
