Hey Tick,
I dont know if this has already been addressed, but when you change presets in R2, it gives a short - but quite annoying - stuttering sound, as if a short loop of the waveforms is being repeated very fast.
When the presets are changed, I think the current preset should be immediately silenced and the output be restored only when the new preset is fully loaded and ready.
brgds,
Jens

That's the same problem as the "audio freeze" reported in another thread. When changing presets Rhino requires an awful lot of cpu to compute all these envelope shapes and keyboard tracking curves.... This cpu spike is responsible for the stuttering effect.
There isn't much that can be done about it, unfortunately. I'll keep trying things, though, because this problem has been annoying me as well

Why not just cut off the instrument's audio output immediately upon receiving the event for changing preset --- and then only restore the audio output when all these calculations are done and the new preset is ready to play?Big Tick wrote:When changing presets Rhino requires an awful lot of cpu to compute all these envelope shapes and keyboard tracking curves.... That's what it does - but because of that huge cpu usage during the preset change, the host is probably playing back previous buffers - hence the stuttering.

OK --- I understand. I'm sure you'll find a way through --- have you asked other instrument/effect developers how they overcome this? Must be a common issue.Big Tick wrote:That's what it does - but because of that huge cpu usage during the preset change, the host is probably playing back previous buffers - hence the stuttering.

This is not a request for a fix, but as much as I like the new GUI I also really liked the look of Rhino 1.
Would be nice to have the "classic skin" (adapted) as an option.
