Hi Folks,
I'm looking at softsynths, particularly Avenger, Serum and Synthmaster.
What synth would be capable of delivering trailer sounds, like braams, drones, risers, downers, etc. and edm.
Anyone with experience on these (or other) softsynths? Love to hear the pros and cons.
Thanks!

Any would be decent. It's up to you what you can do with them.

‘Best’ would be samples (Keep Forest makes wonderful products) or the Heaviocity libraries for the trailer FX.
For example, the ‘ragged’ brass sound for an epic braam I really think needs a brass sample. I had some success layering a soft synth in with the brass but it was a pure analog emu (Repro) and not a more digital EDM synth from which I could not get the same dark brass sounds.
A lot of trailer fx involve Layering in real world percussion sounds as well .. not really possible to get that with softsynths in a convincing way.
If you are up for creating convincing new trailer sounds from scratch I think you will need a much bigger toolbox than just an EDM synth - Orchestral/real world samples, softsynths, sample editors, a host of FX plugins.
Anyways of those above Avenger - just more capabilities. Avenger is also working on a cinematic expansion and would be interesting to see their techniques (and how much of the pack is just samples). Falcon or Dark Zebra also worth looking at, both have more sound design options than Avenger for FX.

Possibly Omnisphere or maybe Strobe 2 or something. Honestly, get a good softsynth like Strobe 2, Serum etc. for EDM and then Kontakt to use instruments/samples for trailer sounds. If you want to do both, you might have to dig into Z3ta+ 2 - i've seen patches that go both directions. It's a very capable, albeit complex, synth.

Y'know, like that satisfying "thunk!" When it connects to the knobbly bit on the back of your car; the sound of your dad cursing as all the matches he's striking to make a fire are getting extinguished by the wind, Or, perhaps, heavy rain on a thin, metallic roofAnX wrote:Trailer sounds?
