Cubase - Can't Load My VST Instruments

Post

I imported MIDI tracks from Guitar PRO.

I want to load different VST Instruments onto these tracks so that they sound better.

On the Inspector Pane as you see on the picture my installed VST instruments don't exist

although they exist in

Devices - Plug-In Manager - VST Instruments

There's only Microsoft GS Wavelab Synth as VST Instrument on the Inspector Pane. Tracks sound normally when I load GS Wavelab.

But I can not see and load my VST Instruments there.

I also can not see and load my VST Instruments;

"VST Instruments (The Pane on the right) (Right Click) - Add Rack Instruments"

#1. Rack instruments and track instruments are different things.

You have loaded Halion in a rack which demand midi tracks pointing to it.

Advantage is that one instance support many loaded instruments inside Halion.

#2. You have created instrument tracks where you normally load a VST instrument on each.

So clicking on MicrosoftWavetable synth - you have no alternatives listed there?
On the edge there I expect you to get a list to choose an instrument from system.

If you were able to load it in a rack, you should be able to load it above the uparrow on right pane, if not elsewhere like instead of MicrosoftWavtable.

You have two questions/issues.

First - in the inspector (left side) you have circled MIDI destinations. Can you take a picture of the devices listed when you click? Every defined MIDI device on your system from Studio->Studio Setup->MIDI->MIDI Port Setup should be listed. Plus any Rack or Track instruments you have defined on the right side. The Halion SE instance you have on the right should be the first thing in the list.

Second - Moving to the Rack (right side). When you click the down arrow to add instruments there is another arrow on the top right of the add dialog. It's to the right of the filter/search box. Click that and make sure you have "default" selected. That should expose every VSTi installed.
If you have to ask, you can't afford the answer

I saw the arrow you have mentioned.

There are two options;

a) Default
b) Native Instruments

I chose "Default" then VST Instruments which were previously lost came up.

Thank you very much :))

So you must have created your own list call "Native Instruments" but you didn't populate it with any plugins.
If you have to ask, you can't afford the answer

1) What should I choose for "Input Routing" and "Output Routing"? (Native Instruments Kontakt or Focusrite Scarlett 2i4)

2) After choosing those how to activate Kontakt Panel? (So that I choose a specific instrument)

This is not meant to be rude, but, the manual is really good: https://steinberg.help/cubase-manuals/c ... ments-9-5/

I'm sure if you go through that, step by step, you'll get where you want to be. :)

I've already read that and watched some tutorials. Couldn't find the answer.

It doesn't sound.

I choose Kontakt 5 from Rack Instruments.

I got "Do you want to create a MIDI Track assigned to plugin Kontakt 5" I said "Yes"

Then the screen is like that.

What should I do now?

Select the MIDI track (I think it is already selected) and play. But before, load an instrument in Kontakt (I hope that at least you know how to do that).

Really, did you ever used a sequencer before? You should at least read the manual, or if you don't like to read, wath some video tutorials, and play the tutorials Steinberg prepared.

You are a novice, and asking questions here will not help you. You will get one or two answers, which will most likely creating even more doubts, and most likely after a day or two. At this pace, in a year from now you will still be in your first lesson. And before learning the very basics, you will not do anything with Cubase.

Try learning the hard way (studying). Learning Cubase is like learning an instrument. It requires hours of studying and practicing.

It seems you don't like reading at all.

I said I've read the manual and watched tutorials.

I assigned VST Instrument to the MIDI Track and "THERE IS NO SOUND" while it plays.

You don't assign a VST instrument to a MIDI track.

1. You load a VST instrument in the Rack (the arrow pointing lower);
2. You load a sound in that VST instrument (if it doesn't play any sound by default, which is the case of Kontakt - when you load it, it doesn't play, because no sound is loaded);
3. Then you select (or create) a MIDI track;
4. In the track inspector (on the left) you select, as MIDI out, the rack instrument you loaded. Make sure that the instrument will respond in the channel you select too (when you are assigning a virtual instrument as MIDI out in a MIDI track, you treat it like any other instrument, therefore, you have to assign the port, the channel, etc.)
5. Make sure the MIDI track is record enabled (the record button of the track inspector has to be red);
6. Play - you will have sound coming out of the virtual instrument.
7. If no sound is coming out, make sure Cubase is receiving MIDI, by looking at the lower panel extreme right. The black square there is divided in two columns. The column on the right shows the audio output. The column on the left shows the MIDI. If you see no indication, tt may happen your controller is connected to a MIDI port that's not activated. In that case, check the menu "Studio > Studio Setup", and in the box, check the MIDI Port Setup. It has to show all the MIDI ports you have available. All the In ports should be active. Check if any MIDI port is missing.

You may also use Track Instruments (instruments are loaded in a track that receives MIDI directly). I prefer the Rack method, because, when you are dealing with multi-channel instruments (like HALion SE, or Kontakt) you may have just one instance loaded, and address any number of MIDI tracks to it, just like you would with an external instrument. In the instrument itseld, you assign each sound to its own MIDI channel, and all you have to do is select each MIDI track and assign it to the channel where is the sound you loaded that you want that MIDI track to play to. MIDI tracks and audio instrument track are independent.

From the steps you've mentioned;

1) OK

2) OK. (Now I double clicked an instrument "of which name is "Time of the Season" and it's loaded.)

3) When I choose Kontakt 5 from the rack instruments it automatically created a MIDI track which is "Kontakt 5". (VST Instruments section at the right pane)

4) I choose one of the imported MIDI Tracks from Guitar PRO which is "Guitar 1"

I choose

Output Routing = 01. Kontakt 5 - MIDI In (It doesn't say name of the instrument which is "Time of the "Season")

5) I choose "Record Enable" for both

a) Guitar PRO Imported MIDI Track "Guitar 1"
b) VST Instrument MIDI Track "Kontakt 5"

!!! 6) No! There is no sound while it plays!

7) On the most extreme right below

a) MIDI In Activity : Active (Blue lines are moving)
b) Audio Activity : Active (Blue lines are moving)

!!! I couldn't find "Studio - Studio Setup" ?

Thank you very much for your detailed answer. You did great by sorting the steps out.

I'll be waiting your answer.
