I've not long come back from a long weekend drinking and smoking in west wales. :drunk: . First thing I do when I get back is reach for my new Cameleon2000 (edit: errr... 5000 even} and have a go to see what stuff I can do with it... Rather than just playing with it I thought I'd write a tune using a few tweaked presets. Here's the outcome (so far)...

Final Mix Camel Riding - f**k Vocals!

2nd Mix Camel Riding - no vocals yet.

Original Camel Riding

This is all cameleon (except the drums). What do you reckon?. I want to progress the song more, but to be honest this is not my normal genre, so any ideas/mix techniques etc... would be most welcome.

Cheers
Ben

Hi Ben,

nice little song

I would only change the drums, the snare sounds too metallic/cheap for me, loved it more woody and a thighter bassdrum maybe.
The camel sounds are fine though.

West Wales - Southport : doable....

You can ride some camels there too :-o

Catchy, clean, sounds very Camel-y. :-) Oases, pyramids, sandstorms, hidden caverns, movie cliches. I like it.

but more seriously; you're welcome in southport too :)

Some weird and strange tuna, that I just had to listen to. And I can tell its good to take explorative walks off the trodden path now and then. I think somehow that the sound for the almost continual melody (starting at 0.15) is a tad too penatrative and distracting from the rest of the sounds. I think thinning that sound out with a band eliminate would make for a more balanced tune somehow. Arrangement wise this is by far not bad at all.

Yeah change the drums though (or leave them out completely)

:dog: oops ... I meant 5000!

Cheers for the feedback so far...

I'd love to come to southport, But unfortunetly it's the same weekend as my cousins wedding in kent. So can't make it unfortunetly :(

Yeah I agree the drums need changing... I can swap the bass with a tighter bass, but am a bit clueless when it comes to snares in this kinda of music. I can hear it's wrong! but just don't know how to fix it. This is currently the ns7 snare. Does anyone know of a better, more sutiable one?

I think your right about the lead starting at 15 seconds... I'll have a re-listen with fresh ears tomorrow and work on it.

I was also thinking of getting my housemate to do some female vocals lines for this too...

Hey, that's cool! I too would like to hear some females vocals in there.

Really neat tune, I like. 8)

A lot of retro things in there even though it sounds contemporary - reminds me in parts of early New Order and in other parts of nineteen seventies bbc drama themes!

I really like the wah sound whatever patch that is.

...and personally I like the drums as they are.

I'd try a lowpass on the kick
Anti-aliasing is for "synthmonk%ys".

OK... new mix, I've changed the bassdrum (added some distortion and eq'ed to remove some of the top end), the snare (changed to Rim shot and Eq'ed), the lead starting at 15s (fiddled with the filter in cameleon to reduce it's frequency range) and re-arranged some of the drums/hi hat. I think it sounds better. there's more room now for the camel sounds to shine through. Though I think it could do with a few statigically placed cymbal crashes!, to make the high points of the song seem higher!

Will add vocals when I can tie down my housemate :-o, I haven't managed to ask her yet. She was in London last night singing in the royal albert hall for the proms (apparently she was on TV BBC4, but I only found out after!). So she didn't get back to late and she's dissappeared again this morning!. tut.

It's the "Leads-hard / Rezo Lead" sound that comes with cameleon5000. Though I might have tweaked it slightly (I can't remember if I did).

She didn't seem to keen on the idea.. :(

Does anyone else want to have a go at doing some vocal parts?
