TRS cables OK for unbalanced connections?

Just wondering if using TRS cables to connect unbalanced equipment (and using the consumer level setting on my soundcard) will yield any advantages or disadvantages.

They'll work fine. I connect all of my equipment with balanced cables, and have never noted any ill effects. You might want to make sure that none of your hardware has any tricky "send/receive" combo jacks (the E-mu sampelrs come to mind here).
