Does anybody know any "magical" software that will take
the pain away writing manuals for plugins?

Or is a html program + Acrobat Writer the only way
to go?

most tech writers I know use MS Word. There are features like auto -outlining/headers, generation of Table of Contents, tables, import of images, etc..

and I know there are ways to convert word docs to pdf through Adobe. {I know because Kinkos will charge you to do this if you don't do it. The conversion to pdf pulls in the fonts used, so a given system/printer doesn't have to have them avaiable for loading] if pdf is your final format.

That being said, expect to spend some time with Word's help system to figure out what you need to do.

Love your work. Why isn't Grease Tube up on your site anymore? It's a gem for overdrive. Did the pre-amp plug that was momentarily available morph into that red box thing?

Word is good for this, or if you don't have it and don't care to enrich Redmond you might try OpenOffice.org. Open source, free for the downloading; available for Linux, BSD, Solaris, Windows, and Macintosh. I've used this suite (and StarOffice) for years. Used to be... well, okay... but since the early days it's improved a lot, and now it's a full-powered office suite.

The word processor in OOo has all the functionality you'd need for a software manual, and (at least on my Windows setup) it can output directly to PDF.

Best of luck,

Meffy

P.S.: In case it isn't apparent, http://www.openoffice.org is the place to visit. :-)

MS Word... hmm.. I actually got it on a CD somewhere.
Came with the laptop I bought so maybe I should install and start using it!

If I can freely output to PDF then I´m homefree!

Greasetube will be up at the next web update.

This new preamp thingy was made from scratch two days
ago so +1 to the collection.
