How do I get more views on youtube?

My view count on my most recent tracks on youtube (for the last year) has dropped significantly.
I get virtually no views at all on my most recent tracks.
I make medieval-inspired music on my computer, and I've been told it is because it is such a narrow genre that very few people actually listen to such music.
But, and here's the interesting part: I'm not the only one making such music. If you type in "medieval music" in the search bar on youtube, what's the first result you get? You obviously don't get authentic medieval music. What you probably get is from a channel named Derek & Brandon Fiechter, a very similar channel to mine, and they have their recent uploads get more views instantly and instantly getting ranked first place on youtube search results.
So I am kindly asking here: What am I doing wrong? I am tagging my uploads. I do everything I can to remind people I exist. But it helps 0, zero uno none whatsoever.
Is there some feature on youtube I have missed? Do channels have pay youtube to have their recent tracks posted in the first results, or what is the matter?

Maybe YouTube think medieval music is offensive to left wing extremists who regard it as hate speech or some such nonsense.
Have your medieval colleagues had a similar dip in their popularity?

This is the same method MJ used when he was working on Anthony Marinelli's Thriller.

Consider start making "how to make" videos. It's the latest trend!
It seems these days it's easier drawing a large crowd by busking than getting famous on YouTube.
Except for some miracles that happened for some, and these now have regular watchers on their channels.

No. They are getting more popular.Aloysius wrote:Maybe YouTube think medieval music is offensive to left wing extremists who regard it as hate speech or some such nonsense.

Btw. medieval music, as well as renaissance music, has nothing to do with political opinions.

There is enough of "how to make" videos on youtube. I'd rather keep telling stories through animation and music.BertKoor wrote:Consider start making "how to make" videos. It's the latest trend!

I regard myself to belong to the political left, I dislike Trump and I hate fascists and racists etc.Aloysius wrote:You'd be surprised.
But medieval music is my passion, and I welcome everyone from the far left to the far right and the political centre and across all nations and boundaries, social as well as economic backgrounds to listen, watch and comment on my music and animations/short films.
My channel is non-political and non-profit. I have no political messages on my channel at all.
It is also non-religious, despite church-inspired music. But I have no lyrics to my choir, aside from the pseudo-latin phrases that comes with the virtual choir VST.

It might be a result of the search algorithms putting you further down the chain of results. That could be as simple as someone else's channel getting a single more subscriber than yours or a single more view. There would be a threshold in the algorithms. How one breaks past that would be difficult with a channel outside makeup tips or fat children being injured etc. Personally I have found the net a complete waste of time as far as building a following goes.

My tip: make a "how to get more views on your YT video" video. I hear there's an audience for that sort of thing.BertKoor wrote:Consider start making "how to make" videos. It's the latest trend!
This is most likely the actual "real" answer. The better known you are, the more hits you get. To get better known, you need hits. So it's a bit of a catch 22.woggle wrote:It might be a result of the search algorithms putting you further down the chain of results. My guess is that it's a combination of factors. Search terms being one of them. But also think about how most people in YT get to your video. It's not normally via searching. The stronger your links to other videos or to a viewer's perceived interests, and the more popular you are, the more likely you are to be a suggested video/up next/recommended video.
I mean, how often does YT suggest that you might want to watch a video with a grand total or 12 views over its 7 year lifetime? I'm guessing not very often. And how often do you actively click on videos with a low number of views/likes if there's another video with a huge following in the search results as well, if both otherwise seem equally likely to be what you were looking for?

its all a matter of luck and at least advertising.
here, you've posted a thread asking about your channel, but have not provided a link, there isn't even one in your signature.
i don't know if youre active in any medieval music or just medieval forums, but that might get a few views too.

Yeah, tying in with what I added to the end of my previous post while vurt posted this, I'm guessing you need to get the word out that you exist first. Get people to watch your videos. And above all, they need to like them, as well as watch more than just 1 second of them. At least that's my impression.vurt wrote:its all a matter of luck and at least advertising.

And ideally, you get subscribers too, some of whom will watch your new videos just because they are followers.
In other words, you need to spam in a non-spammy way
