When your presets are at disparate levels?

So I have some new hardware, out of the box it has 500 presets.
I need to adjust the volume constantly scrolling the banks, one sounds good at 25% (the next at 50% ... %75% ... 100% and so on).
In this case, does it make sense to simply adjust the volume knob as I listen, would you use a leveler/compressor to make the volume between them more consistent?
Kind regards

I'd probably stick to adjusting the volume. Using a leveler or compressor could screw up the dynamics if you're not careful.

I'd adjust the volume and resave the presets one by one. I'm probably a bit OCD like that though.ARNK wrote:So I have some new hardware, out of the box it has 500 presets.

Weird, considering the sources: Dave Smith, Waldorf, etc.

Disappointing to hear of such an experience on presumably what is otherwise a very nice and very good sounding piece of hardware?ARNK wrote:So I have some new hardware, out of the box it has 500 presets.

How's the hardware working out for you otherwise?
Tell you what - drop us a PM and we'll give you one of our sound banks for free as a demonstration of how sound design should be. We cater for quite a few soft synths across several genres so hopefully we have something you can use.
Look forward to hearing from you ARNK!

5 years allocated to design the hardware, 5 minutes allocated for the presets...ARNK wrote:risome wrote:Rookie design mistake not checking/matching levels in preset design

It happens :/ I’m not sure if it’s happening as much anymore but the Blofeld’s patch library is notorious for this. You’ll be playing a delicate pad that you have to crank way up then you switch to a bass patch and it explodes your speakers.

I'd just go through them. 500 presets might take an hour. Then back up.

Quality control on their side and poor preset checking on the sound designers side.ARNK wrote:risome wrote:Rookie design mistake not checking/matching levels in preset design

As a professional sound designer its part of my process to make sure levels match in my presets.Apparently "big names" are not exempt in this case.
