One thing I struggle a bit in Live is the workflow with the browser...

I find it extreme annoying to have just one place to get everything from...samples/plugins/instruments/presets
Other DAW´s have at least 2 options ... one for all plugin/instrument/preset related and one for samples...

Having just one place in Ableton results for me in much clicking/browsing/navigating...

Need a plugin > ok click this tab/ scroll there/ drag there
Need an instrument > ok click the other tab/ navigate here and there again/drag it to there...
Now I need a sample... wow, moving all the way down/ click another tab/ doubleclick here and scroll and doubleclick again ...
Need another plugin... ok all the way back and again and again...

It feels like my mouse is part of a marathon which doesn´t come to an end...

I know of course about the usual "help" functions with collections and CTRL+F but I am not sure if that helps...
Collections for my plugins prevent a bit having to change the tab between native and VST but for me it doesn´t bring more on the table...

The browser search seems to me the most helpful way, but I struggle with samples and because it doesn´t reset itself it´s an extra pita if you do both: searching for plugins and convential navigating for samples...

With samples I struggle mainly because of how to search... with thousands of samples and their weird naming it feels to me like typing in the search term necessary takes double time than reseting the search and navigating manually...

Do I miss here something workflow wise or am I just too lazy and this is how things are in Ableton...
I read here and then a few complaints about the browser but nothing major like I feel about it... so most people seem to be fine with it...

What´s your opinion/ tips/ workflow???

@Transit, Not sure if this helps. The version 10 allows you to make custom folders for the browser. This way you could create sub folders and name them anything you want.

Also in 10, the color tags can apply to folders, so you can tag those folders and they'll appear at the top of the browser panel.

Hi, i understand what you mean. I have a love hate relationship with the browser myself.

In Live 10 the best thing you can do to improve workflow is to define favorites, top left.
Just add your fav fx plugins, instruments, clips and sample packs there for quick access.

You can also add your Projects root folder to places, so that you can easily browse to any past Project and drag out tracks you like.
Also add the root of your sample collection folder to places.
Yes CTRL-F is really good and fast.

Ableton does not have the greatest browser in the world, granted.

But... really?

Lol

Tbh, I don´t feel like Lol about that...
Compared to other DAW´s I use/ have used it´s the most cumbersome way I´ve ever found

In this regard, the best workflow offers FL Studio...
Everything is available at the same time where it needs to be:
FLS.jpg
Sadly FLS got many problems, when it comes to complex arrangements/latency compensation for the playlist (automation etc...)
You do not have the required permissions to view the files attached to this post.

Yeah, I am afraid, this is something I have to get used to... :x

Live's Browser accepts "special" keywords that fit Categories, device types, file types, etc.

That is usually enough to find most plugins here:

Ctrl + F (goes to search bar) >> "vst" + space + start of plugin's name/folder (will restrain the results a lot) >> down key (goes to results) >> enter key (to load plugin)

For example, "vs dec" (the keywords can be shortened, just "vs" can work instead of "vst", even "v"+space sometimes) is enough to restrain the results to Decimort and Decapitator here. And "vs deci" only Decimort.

I have installed all my VSTs inside folders by type ("Reverb", "Delay", etc), so typing "vst rev" is enough to call all my reverb plugins.

Live's own native stuff are "special" and always top the search results, so typing "conv" finds Convolution Reverb and its presets, "op" finds Operator and its presets, etc.

And so on, just type the category (rack, drum rack, vst, effect, etc.. ) and the name, separated by space (or punctuation, it also works, like "303,op" found 3 Operator presets with "303" on the name here).

The arrow keys allow navigation, and tab, ctrl+tab and shift+tab (plus the ctrl+f) allow switching from Browser to the Tracks, to the FX chain, etc. and

Just do some experimentation.

Thank you for this hint...
With a bit more/better organization could the search be a bit easier
