This is just a demo with several glaring production problems that I'll get to when I'm more certain of the composition. There's a bit of distortion in the bass in a few spots, but since I have the distortion perfect in 98% of the line, I'll just have to manually automate the saturation level to even things out when the time comes. I'm thinking of making this one a bit more dub oriented, and there may be an ethereal intro, too.

I've had this piece for at least three years now (which is frightening), but I keep reinventing it. This is the best take on it so far. I'm marching ever closer to my Kung Fu Chrysalis album, and the style of the album is really starting to take shape. I'm learning the slow lessons on practising restraint.

I'll post an update soon, so subscribe to the thread if you want some free music.

Thanks. Super minimal shakers, eh? Almost like a snare substitute.

For the opposite of minimal, check out these rough demos (and I mean rough!). They both use a lot of the same sounds as the track above, but in an agressive way. The squelchy sounds are among the best I've made as far as versatility and they're find their way into a lot of my new ideas.

These will be two of the faster tracks on the album.

For some reason I am not so convinced about the koto (?) in here.

I am loving that sound that is first introduced at 0.20 (although that very first hit seems a bit too loud). The bass is just great I must say.

I just cannot put my finger on what I have trouble with. It seems that the balance needs more work here and perhaps the introduction of some silence parts to help create a bit more tension in here.

Listened to the other tracks as well:

Castle - great bass to further build on. I don't fully agree with some of the thinnish sequences in here, and there seems to be a syncing problem half way down the track.

Fountain - like the other two, very clean sounding where I would personally add fuller sounds somehow. Again great bass happening; this track is allready quite nasty and could imo get even dirtier.

The hammer dulcimer? Hmmmm. I like it as it gives an old world feel to the line. The original version of this song had a surf guitar sound on that line which was pretty cool, but it doesn't fit any longer into the big picture.

Yeah, that first hit is too loud.

yep, you're right. Needs more space. Time to edit! :)

Well, these really are demos in every sense of the term. I don't get too serious about engineering and some sound selections until the very end. Though sometimes a set of sounds will be there from the beginning and dictate to me what to do next.

Thanks for listening!

Hi Shane! Nice to hear this "new" song. I think it sounds good all over and if I were attempting to do anything with it - it would be to thin it out and get it more groovy. Use the bells and whistles sparingly. The arrangement keeps hesitating on a solid riff but then the bass or the bells get all noodly. I'm not saying you should turn it in to a trance song but I like the dubby idea. You'll have to successfully nail both the dub and proggy-electronica genres to make it work. :) Cheers.

That was one fine track indeed, I particularly liked the bass and percussion :D It reminded me of Ozric Tentacles in places, and thats no bad thing imo. Great stuff.
RIP Black Tom and Beckett. They weren't just cats, they were MY cats, the best cats ever.
