Hardware change - Soft eLicenser stopped working

As per the title - i built in a new graphics card, and new memory in my desktop computer, and, when i first launched Studio One, and tried to load Padshop Pro, there was an error message from the eLicenser task that i had made a hardware change, and that the soft eLicenser (which holds no licenses, all on a USB dongle) has been deactivated. After that, there is a second error message, which says that files or informations, which are necessary for the validity of the soft eLicenser have been changed, or are defective.

SO, i opened the eLicenser Control Center, and it gives me the same error messages. Reparation of the soft eLicenser is not possible, because i get an error message then that some files can't be accessed with my current user rights (starting the Control Center with normal user rights). So, i start the Control Center with administrative rights then, and, everything is in order... no error messages, no nothing, and reparation and maintenance job also runs without issues. It won't fix it though, when i start the Control Center, OR my hosts with norma user rights (as i always do), i get those error messages again.

I already contacted Steinberg support about it, but, considering they usually get back to me after weeks, i thought i'd also ask here. Maybe someone has some experience with hardware changes and eLicenser? It's not a big deal, as, as i have written, i have all my licenses on a dongle, and that works fine, still i want to fix that error.

Re-install the eLCC. That worked for me.

Oh, forgot that i did that as well. First thing i did actually. :) Thanks for the suggestion anyway.

If there are no licenses on the eLicenser you could just delete it.

It's at C:\ProgramData\Syncrosoft\SeLicenser.sel

Will the Control Center create a new soft eLicenser then?

You need to launch elCC with admin privileges. It will then be able to repair the faulty soft eLicenser.

There is also the possibility to simply delete it, but I don't know what is the file right now (had one discussion with Steinberg assistance once, where they told me which file it was I should delete).

Anyway, luanching the CC with admin privileges should be ebough.

As i wrote, i have already done that. When i start the Control Center as admin, the soft eLicenser isn't reported as deactivated, and, i can also run the reparation and maintenance. When i run my DAW, or the Control Center as normal user though, it's all back to deactivated state, and those error messages.

It's not the maintenance tasks - those are not enough. I think there is an option in the menu Actions (which is "Repair Soft eLicenser") that you need to run.

Do you need one? If all your licenses are on a dongle then a soft-eLicenser is redundant and the Control Center won't care if there isn't one.

After my last Windows update, I got something similar. I had to download the full and most current eLicenser from Steinberg and fully install it from that file. Everything showed up without any problem after.

And yes, you should be able to install the new full one right over the existing one. Should be no need to uninstall the original one first.

Got a response from Steinberg support today (after only a day :tu:), and they directed me to this knowledge base article: https://helpcenter.steinberg.de/hc/de/a ... iner-fehlt

Downloading and executing the Helper Tool fixed the issue for me. As far as i understood it, what it does is to delete every existing soft eLicenser, and create a new one. Note though, that that only should be done with soft eLicensers which contain no license, otherwise, obviously your licenses are gone.
