I'm thinking of changing my m-audio audiophile 2496 into a m-audio delta 1010 LT, because I want to be able to record vocals and also have more ins/outs. But mainly for recording vocals. I'm wondering if the preamps that comes with the delta1010 soundcard gives a good recording? or should I rather buy a mixer with preamps?
I want to get a decent sound when I record vocals, that don't give alot of background noise etc. (I know the mic has much to say in this also, but for a start I want a decent mic preamp)
Hope anyone on this site can give me tips of what to do.

I think your soundcard is prettygood already, why not wait till the next wave of good cards to upgrade and go the good preamp route.I like the idea of buying good quality and not upgrading just expanding, plus I think most preamps have two inputs so you will expand your ins a bit http://www.kvr-vst.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=47795 about cheap mixer preamps

I can think of lots of reasons to upgrade from the 2496, because I also use that card. But wanting something to do vocals has never been one of the reasons, because I can do them already.
I would suggest buying a mixer with decent enough pres, because the mixer will likely be a constant fixture in your studio, whereas the sound card may change from time to time. I use a cheap-tastic Behringer UB802, which doesn't introduce any (noticeable, I'm sure it can be detected with plugins, etc) noise at the levels I record at. This goes to the 2496.
Like I said, the 1010 is likely a better card (dunno how their AD/DA converters rate) but if you're still doing this at the hobbyist level, a mixer may be less expensive and more useful than a soundcard replacement, which you can still do later on.
Just an alternative suggestion.

yes, the 1010LT has got two mic preamp inputs, and for recording vocals you only need 1 if I'm correct?:P
and since I'm very happy with the quality of the soundcard I already have, I thought why not upgrade it to same manufacturer and get the mic preamp so I can record vocals, but I'm mostly interested to hear if anyone know if it will give me a recording(vocals) ?

Heh! Sorry, still can't answer your question, not knowing jack about the 1010...
But since all but the smallest of mixers will come with 2 balanced inputs for microphones, you'll still be able to use 2 if you want.
