Paid $515 at CompSource and hope to receive late November but my suspicion is I will get it Mid December. Oh well!
It's $595 USD at CompSource now, and they show 50 in stock. I would imagine you'd get yours soon!

Amazon is showing them for $1000 USD for some wacky reason. Newegg has them for $579 USD but out of stock. :dog: :scared:

Why?
Because those motherboards have better VRM implementation...

I decide on the ROG MAXIMUS XI HERO as I really do not need thunderbolt. The USB 3.1 is good enough. If I ever need the TB I can always get a PCIe TB card.
That is the problem, you can't :!:
Can only connect a PCIe TB card to a motherboard with Thunderbolt header.
In the Asus Z390 line only 3 have Thunderbolt header, the ones I
mentioned in viewtopic.php?p=7212790#p7212790
My part selection https://pcpartpicker.com/list/RpkCq4 It seems good but I need to check the dimensions for the cooler to fit in the case and the RAM height.

Wow! making real progress here.
Now I need to pick my 32 GB RAM. And to be able to increase it too 64GB.
Select 2x16GB RAM sticks, something from 2666MHz to 3200MHz CAS 15 or 16.
Do the coolers nowadays include the thermal paste?
Yes

The tray version (not the box version) now is $539

I paid $515 three or so weeks ago.
Will I ever get it?
At $515 they may choose to cancel the deal and refund my money.

@Pictus - is the VRM regulation necessary just to get the best out of the CPU or is it more a case of supporting advanced graphics configurations?

Thanks - pretty useful.

Ok I can live without the Thunderbolt on Asus - ROG MAXIMUS XI HERO (WI-FI) ATX LGA1151 Motherboard. Otherwise it is minor step down with:
PRIME Z390-A https://www.asus.com/Motherboards/PRIME-Z390-A/
and WS Z390 PRO https://www.asus.com/us/Commercial-Serv ... fications/

the ROG MAXIMUS XI EXTREME https://www.asus.com/Motherboards/ROG-M ... fications/
and is EATX and my case is ATX.

I will wait to choose and buy the RAM on what is no sale 2x16GB RAM sticks, something from 2666MHz to 3200MHz CAS 15 or 16.

Ok the Nactua D15 has some limitations. I see. But If I do any OC it will be limited.

I have learned a lot on these posts and need to learn a lot more for the assembly and setup.

Was it a pre-order? Why would they cancel it?

They may cancel my $515 order as CompSource will be able to sell it for a higher price to someone else. Unlikely but said as I am bit annoyed that the delivery still has not been announced. I suspect not announced because it will be in December of this year. But then again I could be all wrong about what is going on.

This probably isn't responsible of me to post, but if you want some extra % out of your cpu, you could try delidding. Some people service it for you, though there are tutorials. Highly not recommended as it's very tricky, but I've done it, and works. (NM, they fixed the thermal issues in the newer CPUs!)

If that's too extreme, this thermal paste is pretty good (just have to be very careful with it): https://www.amazon.com/Thermal-Grizzly- ... B01A9KIGSI

The 9900K/9700K have soldered IHS(integrated heatspreader), not easy to delid.

Because it was poorly choosen, third party, bolted on components that would screw DPC up in the past. It's improved a lot over the years and tier 1 board suppliers do tend to try and keep that in consideration whilst designing these days.

Just to note, in case you're not aware of it. Retail ship with 3 years warranty here, where OEM/Tray ship with a single year. I don't know if or how that varies in your location, but it's worth noting if you've not been told upfront and you should check with your supplier if it's important to you.

It’s not easy, and not even worth it. The previous gen had crappy thermal paste, but there’s virtually no reason to delid a 9900K since they switched back to solder.

I found that out shortly after ordering it. The day after I ordered Amazon started again t sell the i9-9900k for $530 but was too late for me to buy from them. I guess I will live with the one year warranty.

It's probably worth noting that both the 1 year as well as the 3 year warranty is voided if you overclock anyway, despite the fact that Intel sells the chip unlocked to an enthusiast market. :dog:
