I have this little niche of filmscore that I am interested in, namely Bond themes. The reason is that I have been a dedicated James Bond fan since early childhood (legacy of my father) and the theme has always been a very significant part of a film to me. Nothing less that its identity, story and mood. Further, it has always seemed to me that composers did a little extra efforts when hired to do Bond films. Though, my preferences really seem to be early generation bond movies in this regard. Thus, I give you the opportunity to list your 5 favorite bind themes not at least to see how many differs from mine and what Bond generation you are grounded in.
Here are mine:
1. Moonraker (1979). Written by John Barry. Performed by Shirley Bassey:
2. Diamonds Are Forever (1971). Likewise written by John Barry and performed by Shirley Bassey:
3. Nobody does it better from "The Spy Who Loved Me" (1977). Written by Marvin Hamlisch and sung by Carly Simon.
4. Live and let die (1973). Written by Paul and Linda McCartney and performed by Poul.
5. For your eyes only (1981). Written by Bill Conti and performed by Sheena Easton:
I'm hopeless Bond romantic, ain’t I?

James Bond movies are silly, but I always liked Never say never again by Lani Hall (whom I considered cute back then), it has that late 70's Californian and Brazilian vibe...

Don't really care about Bond movies, but I dig the themes from Moby (
), Garbage, Tina Turner, Madonna (produced by Mirwais
) and Adele. And I absolutely adore the one from Radiohead that didn't make it to the movie Spectre.

Well, "unofficial" is little misleading. It was not an Eon Production, all right, but the indie company had achieved the rights to produce it. It was the second movie made from the novel Thunderball and it starred Jean Connery who otherwise had said he would "never" play a Bond role again. It competed with the Eon production "Octopussy" at the time.

For me, just two, and it's a tie:
Live And Let Die
Nobody Does It Better
I have many Carly Simon songs in my music collection. I love them all. I didn't know that she did not write that James Bond song.
It seems like a song she could have written. Fits her really well.
She had/has the "talent" to write melodies and lyrics like that.
Yup, she may have been one of those freaks (good melody writer and good lyricist in one person). To me, at least.
She also had/has a much better voice (and more hits?) than Stevie Nicks (drug use wrecked Srevie's voice?).
Stevie Nicks fans may say "Wrong wrong wrong... pfui, hooey, whatcha ralkin' 'bout you bonehead!!?"
"But Dave, I'm a big big fan of Stevie Nicks too, come on, it's all subjective", said Paul Schaffer.
Mr. Schaffer may not actually have said that. I don't know. I'm not sure.
Oh wait no, I can't picture Dave liking Stevie Nick's songs. But Dave likes the Foo Fighters (he said so) and the Dave (Grohl) in the Foo Fighters loves Stevie Nicks songs. Oh wait, maybe that wasn't Dave Grohl, maybe it was Billy Corgan. I'm soooooooooo confused. Dave Grohl is soooooooooooo hairy and Billy Corgan is bald.
Anyways, I'm off to Google that, and to check if Paul McCartney wrote his James Bond contribution. And also if Paul did or didn't do that, sing other people's songs, I mean. Ooops, yeah he did sing other people's songs, during the "teeny bopper" phase of the Beatles. But not after that? Hookers you may say. Ooops, I mean who cares. I get my words mixed up. Like horse and whores. Well, it's true. Oh wait no. It's not always true. I've never heard anybody say "There's a bunch of horse in the lobby with Dave."
