Hey ! It is me again.
I have some questions about orchestral music of today.
I have been fascinated by what the VSL (Vienna Symphonic Library) can do when I have saw what a french did with it.
So I just made some researchs about this, I am interested into ambient orchestral music, like this :
The big issue is that I found NO ONE writing music for "himself", like the majority of the musicians.
I mean, the only musicians I found were writing for film or video games.
This is sad... I mean I was looking for fantasy or ambient orchestral musics, it is ALWAYS related to video games...
It is like people will listen only to classical famous composers, and so the only way to live from music for the composers of today is to write for movie/video games.
Maybe I am wrong ?
Do you know if there is orchestral composers writing music similar to the one from the link I posted ?
Thank you

You're ready to be this conclusive based on next-no-research?
Yeah, there's all sorts of things going on in the world you won't find in an instant.
"It is like people..." it isn't. Are you incurious or something?

Try over at VI-Control in the Member Compositions subforum. There are a number of hobbyists over there making this kind of music for their own satisfaction (as well as a bunch of media composers doing film/tv/game stuff).

Orchestral composers usually write for Orchestra and want their music played by a real Orchestra. But those Orchestras would unlikely play such old fashioned stuff, there is enough of this from classical times in higher quality. Contemporary orchestral music is mostly a very different style... You will find that in concerts, go there and listen...

That initial post strikes me as someone with not a lot of interest before the DAW and plugins, and Youtube tips and tricks and so forth. But how is it that the Google machine wasn't consulted, or what-have-you?
There's a great big world out there, beyond tarnce and EDM, or pop, there really is. There have been composers doing original music qua music all along, using orchestras; and now people who don't have the connections and/or funding can haz in samples, and may mix that with live or remote sessions.
Frank Zappa was mixing sequenced samples and synthesis with hard drive recording of the Ensemble Modern on the Synclavier in the early 90s, for instance.
A real orchestra is a bit of an expenditure, and Other People's Money is usually what is required in order to hear one's music all at once in the big rooms.

@op: if you want to learn more about making this kind of stuff, I suggest you look into Mike Verta's masterclasses. He also has some informative stuff on YouTube for free. There are a lot of folks out there making "epic" (which is another topic entirely) how-to videos who don't really know what they're talking about musically, but he's actually pretty insightful (although leans heavily toward 80s/90s film score sound à la Silvestri, Williams, Horner, etc) and has a thoughtful and candid approach to teaching composition, orchestration, and technical aspects of working with orchestral virtual instruments.
But a lot of his teachings can be distilled to: learn to transcribe the music you enjoy, and you will build a repertoire of devices from which you can draw to make your own music.

Yeah, study music, why not. Apart from Youtube tips and tricks, and apart from tutorials.
Go to the library. Use the google to do something other than what you've done which led you to this conclusion.
Other than to confirm your worldview... Do you know what I'm saying to you at all?
Develop an interest in the wider world, as I admittedly snarkily suggested.
What was the question? "It is like people..." ['only do what I've seen on youtube'].
No, it isn't like that. People make their own thing using these, those or the other materials they can access.
People go further than classic tarnce like from their very beginning because of the outlook of real curiosity.
Seriously. But you may want to stick with validation from people that would dismiss me because I won't do that.
I was only studying orchestration from 40 years ago, out of more interest. No worries, you may dismiss it as you like.
There's the reality-oriented assessment, not just some glib shit by someone with no more concrete advice than I'm giving. I'm not getting paid for this, but you asked a very broad question: asked and answered. You're free to do some work on your own.

Check out
Gustav Mahler - Symphony No. 10 "Adagio"
There are some long segments that may be considered "dark" ambient
or space music or "drony".
Check it out on headphones!
