Exactly, it's a demo (as far as I can deduce) However CM provide a means to get a valid serial_no.SHall1000 wrote: Wed Nov 28, 2018 5:04 pm Is BW 8-Track a thing and is it free? The 8-Track Page on the BW site seems to download the full demo.

Yes, same installer and yes, CM key just activates the 8 Track...sprnva wrote: Wed Nov 28, 2018 5:24 pm It used to be a seperate installer. But with v2 it uses the same one as Bitwig Studio. The key presumably just activates the 8-Track edition.
I did try jugling the digits around to get full version... what a waste of time that was>>>

The latest issue of CM (came out today) includes a free version of the 8_Track Bitwig ( A serial_no to activate said version). Yes, there is no info on the Bitwig site... I think this 8_track version is what is only included in some OEM products, ie: it is not for retail sale. So the only thing I bought was CM, which I get monthly anyway.
Hope this helps.

Thanks. It is very confusing. The BW site has a page TITLED BW 8-Track. It has a link for the installer and tells you to create an account after installation. But the installed DAW seems to be the full BW Studio demo with no obvious link to create an account/convert to the 8-Track version, only an activation link.
Must be that an activation code is given with OEM products. Could be made clearer on the site.

There's one installer for both versions. CM emails your 8-track serial # and you register via your Bitwig account.

So this is a v2 8 track? Guess it must be if it’s now the same installer. I still have the original installed (Beat.de magware), wondering if this version has v2 features? And a Linux version

Is this one of those DAW versions where you're only allowed 2 effects per project, it only exports in 8 bit 32 kHz and you can only write a piece of music 33 seconds long kind of deals?? Is it actually useful in this cut down form? I looked at the restrictions of previous cut down versions of Bitwig and, imo, it makes it pretty useless.

A FREE version of a $400 DAW is obviously going to be pretty cut down.....its free, really no point complaining about what it can or cant do....Remember you also get the cheap upgrade from this free offer to what is (in my opinion) one of the most interesting and creative DAWS available.

I'd like to know this as well. I also want to know if you can use third party VST synths & fx in the 8-Track version.do_androids_dream wrote: Sat Dec 01, 2018 10:18 am Is this one of those DAW versions where you're only allowed 2 effects per project, it only exports in 8 bit 32 kHz and you can only write a piece of music 33 seconds long kind of deals?? Yes, and you can use of the really cool modulators to make new rack instruments with your existing VSTs and drive CV powered instruments etc....Russell Grand wrote: Sat Dec 01, 2018 10:30 amI'd like to know this as well.
