In my experience, the Keyspan serial/USB interfaces have always had a bit of trouble with MIDI. They seemed better adapted to simple serial port uses like printing. My suggestion: bite the bullett and pick up a small USB MIDI interface. They're pretty cheap.
Also, if you're running OSX your serial port MIDI interface might not have any proper drivers.

Of course, if you're running OSX, you can forget using Muzys.

yeah I was thinking that but I tried to use a Edirol UM-1SX interface that is USB and I'm not sure it works with OMS I think it just uses FreeMidi and when I try to get OMS to look for it it just scans the "printer" and "modem" ports not usb I'm just trying to trigger my friends comp so we can make DnB together but its being a real chore.
Will a new USB interface work wityh OMS?

A USB interface will most definitely work with OMS, but you have the proper MIDI interface drivers installed. This is the setup I, and by now most other Mac users still futzing around in OS9, are using. I understand your confusion though. OMS is a pretty old piece of software that was discontinued a long time ago. But it still works pretty well. In case you don't know, the most recent version is 2.3.8mobettatech wrote:yeah I was thinking that but I tried to use a Edirol UM-1SX interface that is USB and I'm not sure it works with OMS I think it just uses FreeMidi and when I try to get OMS to look for it it just scans the "printer" and "modem" ports not usb I'm just trying to trigger my friends comp so we can make DnB together but its being a real chore.

Usually, configuring your MIDI setup through the modem port in OMS is sufficient. I checked the Edirol website and there is a UM-1SX driver available for OMS, so that shouldn't be a worry. Know though that when you are configuring a new studio setup in OMS the program will not automatically detect any synths you have plugged in to your interface. It will only detect your interface, and you will have to add your synths and stuff manually.
As for FreeMIDI, you don't have to bother with this. It's pretty much made for MOTU interfaces only, so since you're using an Edirol it shouldn't be an issue. Even so, most people I know who do have a MOTU interface still use OMS.
Hope this helps.
