Hi all.

I use Cubase Pro 9. Does anyone know of a way to use the render in place process on VSTi's to produce a MONO wav file? No matter what I do it's always a stereo wav file. I know I can convert to mono after but it's time consuming and rather defeats the object of RIP.

Thanks.
I wonder what happens if I press this button...

I'm almost positive mono is an option on the export menul

Export it is but not render in place

This is (still) not possible with RIP in Cubase.

Workaround:
add a mono bus in your audio connections settings and route your instrument track from stereo-out to the new mono bus.
Apply RIP
Its over for Bitwig--CUBASE WON !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Oh my bad, I misread. Despite it being in the subject line

Sorry. Do you mean send the output of the vsti direct to a mono track or via the main stereo out?
I've seen this written elsewhere, but I can't make it work!
Thanks for reply.

I mean the routing in your mix console.

Here is a video with a good explanation:

Yeah thats one of the videos I’ve already seen. In it, he converts a stereo wav to a mono wav but I would like to RIP a mono wav straight from a soft synth. Looks like a work round but not really what I’d like to do. Maybe its not actually possible. Thanks though :tu:

I'm pretty sure you can do this from a MIDI track or Instrument Track using 'Use Settings' in the RIP dialog, the settings being the same as shown in the video, set up a Mono bus in place of the Master. I looked at it just now in Nuendo 8.3.15, more or less equal to Cubase 9.5 and there it is.

Maybe it's different as I'm on Cubase 9.04.0 ? Even when I set a new mono output and route the vsti or stereo wav file to this it just renders another stereo wav file... :?

Maybe. I didn't test it yet. I don't recall seeing that dialog [in earlier versions] but I won't swear by it.
Maybe RIP by definition outs via the master.

Same result here (vsti), I'm sorry to say. The settings don't appear to mean what they should mean either.

Yeah. No worries. Am beginning to think it can't be done. hey ho.

I don't think the architecture allows for it. My test was with Mono Downmix [which is not one of the Settings in RIP] selected in Export Audio, and it meant nothing. So I think it essentially is a simplified Export Audio*, there will be no interruption of the default process.

It bugged me that I selected 'mix down to a single file' in the Settings and I still got all the busses from the vsti, here 3 audio files.
* This is the same result as doing a Channel Batch Export with all the channels in that [Multimbral] instrument automatically selected.
