something like Fidelia.. Vox..
but less cluttered, with a nice clean display.
Vox is pretty good but the free nonsubscription version is cluttered with "subscribe now" buttons.
Fidelia seems defunct and i really don't like the UI. i like that it shows waveform.
man, where is winamp.
edit:
iTunes is out of the question because i don't want all the half-mixes contaminating my iCloud music lib

Have you tried Quod Libet or Clementine?

I really love Black Omega
http://www.blackomega.co.uk/
does a lot of the things more expensive apps like Audirvana do in terms of directly accessing any DAC you have connected and perfectly managing surround systems over HDMI, but at a fraction of the price, plus is very lightweight and stable
I was fooled into taking out a sub (at least on sale) for Vox Cloud but it's a waste of money - it wants to organise the entire library by 'tags' which much of my ripped CD library doesn't have so it's just a created a huge disorganised mess, completely unusable. I have my library organised how I want it using folder hierarchies but it just ignores all that. Asked for a refund and they ignored that too.

There are old versions of Vox available on the site.
I still use 2.2.11 here on Sierra. They don't list it on their site but you can access the links to many older 2.x versions using the updates url.

Audirvana is powerful but vastly over priced. Swinsian I tried but didn't take to it but can't remember why

OK I never used that so don't know what it is either except some sort of radio station or something?
